Hi! I'm sure it will be helpful to compare our HW and game performance. It may help othere people finding out what's the smartest PC upgrade for them.

I've tested Civ4 on these PCs:

Duron 1600@2000 (10x200), 512 MB DDR, ATI Radeon 9200 128bit 64MB,
NB HP nc6000 - Pentium M 1,5GHz, 512 MB DDR, ATI Radeon Mobile 9600 64bit 32MB

- in both cases the game was playable at small map without big problems, on standard map there was lot of swaping to HDD.

- I'm not sure if it would help to buy more RAM or new GK, but there was not big difference between those two GKs so I prefer more RAM. :(

What's your experience?!

no replay??

its my experiance on this forum that CIV4 works better on older systems,

my system is just over 3 years old and it runs perfectly
although there are quite a few people round here who have got top grade computers and CIV4 doesn't run on it.

Laptop: IBM X31, Pentium-M 1.4, 768MB ram, ATI Mobility Radeon (16MB). Didn't work pre-patch, post-patch runs well with a combination of low/medium gfx settings.

Desktop: no-brand Celeron 2.4G, 512MB ram, NVidia GeForce 5200FX (128MB). Runs perfectly (fast and smooth) at high detail settings. Barely ran before patch.

my pc on my sign
clean install of sp2, updated to the last, latest drivers, unused services off, everything tunned on the bios and driver...
quake IV is wonderfull

BUT

CIV4 is barely playable....

since my post I've updated my pc and now it runs smooth and fast. now there's 1GB RAM and GF 6600 GT with 128MB. RAM had the most visible effect.

Am running unpatched game.
Have played 4 "standard" games - I think I've had eight AI opponents.
No issues whatsoever - whew! Even won two of the games.
XP2600 - no o.c.!
1 gig ram
Ti4200 / 128 meg card - driver set is not recent.
120 gig drive with at least 50% free.

FWIW I've had great success playing HL2 and Doom3 with no issues whatsoever after upping to 1 gig of memory.
