Comparing Civ1, Civ2, Civ3 Unit Graphics

Quote: I turn off animation in CivII
There is no animation in CivII!

What I'm wondering is what the terrain will look like. i mean, if the units are that big, each tile must be huge, and you will have to zoom out a lot.

I must admit i like the Civ 3 units better. But as to their sizes maybe there its due to a different zoom. The civ 3 units are going to look the best close up. Maybe the example that are shown are on the max zoom in to impress?

I don't think that the animation is so mucho importanté. I would get sick and tired of watching my engineers dig and dig and dig...etc. when performing task...

if they wanna do some animation it better be discrete and not drawing attention from the actual game...

just airing my beliefs... sorry

well.. they might look big but it depends on what resoultion you run the game in :_)

yeah the phlanx needs a tower sheild not those round ones

I think that the Graphics in Civ III are a lot more nicer than Civ II - and it should be so, because it is a long time now ago, since Civ II came out - way back in the 90´s!

I mean we live in the year 2001 - TWO THOUSAND AND ONE - it is now 5-6 years since Civ II was launched, and a lot has happened since then, on the area of Computer game development and computer graphics.

And looking at the units from Civ III, it looks like that the map can be zoomed alot out and in, and as someone said in this forum, mabey the units show us how it looks when it is zoomed all the way in! <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/psycho-eyes.gif" border=0> - Just a thought!

That Civ III warrior looks like he's actually capable of fighting, unlike the scrawny Civ II warrior. But he's still a poor second to the Civ 1 stick wielding Militia.
The Civ III catapult looks like something from Age of Empires. Hope they keep the cool catapult sound from Civ II.

I think it's just a closer view of the units, like with Warcraft 3 unit shots, remember these two games will be coming out at roughly the same time so it is not surprising to see similar publicity shots. Anyway they are probably upgrading the graphics to .jpg or an mpeg 2 format for better quality and compression. Also the Civ2 catapult does look better, and the blue is the tribe color if I'm not mistaken.

I've said this before too: What's the point of animation in a turn-based strategy game?

The new graphics look good, and I wouldn't mind some subtle movement, like TFall suggested somewhere else (i.e. ocean waves). But after playing one or two animated games, I'm sure I'll be turning it off like i do heralds and wonder movies in Civ 2.

Do any of you you remember a game called 'Battlechess'? Actually it might still be around. Anyway, the pieces would get up, move to where you wanted them, and then have a fight. It was fun 2 or 3 times, but it was really annoying when you wanted to have a serious game of chess...

Yeah, that's why I dislike them (never enjoyed AoE graphics). I prefer Civnet real 2d graphics. Not Civ1 but CivNet. Nevertheless I don't really care of graphics, but I'm very demanding concerning gameplay. Since I've been disappointed by SMAC interface and ergonomy... I've doubts.
anyway, I there're real improvements in graphics.

I was just thinking the same. I'm sure it is so, it's so distinct, and that same color is in all those three units. Other tribes will probably have red, white, green etc.

About the size... Don't pay too much attention to the size of those pictures. They are there to show the details. The relative size is seen on this preview picture .
