It was a C64 game, but I'm sure it was on other platforms too. For some reason I was thinking of the game just now, but couldn't remember the name. And it's bugging the hell out of me. I thought it was passage to India, or something similar, but a google search wasn't very helpful.

The game is basically you being the first to sail to India. It would use static sprites pretty much, although at one point you could hunt for whales or something for food. You would have random events like storms and days with low winds, but eventually you'd get to India (usually). It wasn't a real difficult game. It was one of the few games I could beat at that age. I played that game a lot. Anyone know the name of it?

Feel free to post about other games you are nostalgic for from the 80's (or whenever).

Around what year did the game come out? What genre would you say it was?

mid 80's I think. If I put passage to India in google, I get a bunch of links to a book and stuff. I had a lot of fun with that game.

Basically you would sail a ship around Africa, and try to get to India. If you ran low on food and water, things could get tough. Water you got from rain, so you'd hope you get some rain at times. Food you could get from whales.

this is really bugging me, I'll try to use other search terms to see if I can find it.

I think I found it, and the reason why you guys probably never heard of it is I think it wasn't a professionally released game. Which makes sense, the graphics weren't as good as I thought they were. The graphics are pretty rudimentary. It looks like it was released in a magazine called Compute. Issue 9 Vol 2 No. 3. The game is called Sea route to India.

What my brother would do was type in the machine code found in the magazines and then save that to a floppy disk. So the games weren't exactly high graphics. It was a lot of typing, and finding errors wasn't easy. So it took accurate typing. I was too young at the time, so he did all the machine code entry.

Yes, the graphics are pretty bad LOL. That thing on the bottom is supposed to be a whale I think. Despite the bad graphics, I liked this game a lot. I wasn't very good at a lot of games back then. I liked Seven Cities of gold, but I never could beat that game (although I recently looked it up, and it looks like you can't actually beat that game, there is no end). Games like this I could beat.

To beat 7 Cities of Gold was to become viceroy and almost all score to 100percent land, mines, rivers etc but you wont get an end screen ever

Land was the easiest to get to 100 and rivers or missions
but mines was most difficult and tribes, special places near 100 was okay

Viceroy to become was not difficult depends on difficulty grade too
if you play on easy or higher

lost city you could stumble upon 1 or 2 on a whole map

very good game 7cities and on Amiga was it even better with improved graphics

but no new game features were developed, the 90s dosversion was completely different to the original and rather ugly
