Computer problem--speed & browser trouble

I've already defragged and run Checkdisk, and it's still running slower than tech research under Fundamentalism.

The worst part is that I have a page bookmarked that has other ways to deal with this, but I can't get to it. When I try to open Opera, the hourglass cursor comes up for a while, then it goes back to the arrow, but Opera doesn't open. If I try to open it again, it tells me Opera is already open. I searched trhough the Opera folder but couldn't find my bookmarks.

Anything I can do to fix Opera and the overall slow pace of the computer?

Thanks for the quick reply!!

I have the McAfee security suite and am running it right now. That shouldn't be a problem because it's always up to date, but I'm doing a full scan just to be sure.

I did a little more poking around, and Opera shows up on the Processes tab but not the Applications tab when I hit CTRL-Alt-Delete. I also disabled the modem and tried to open Opera but got the same result. Didn't think that would make a difference but sometimes strange things happen.

i recommend uninstalling opera and then reinstalling it to see if that improves anything

Everything's slower than normal, especially the browsers (both Opera and IE).

Defragging, checkdisk, disk cleanup, spyware check, virus check all done--none of it fixed the problem.

This is weird. Thanks for all the dieas...let me know if you think of anything else it might be.
