THe Heroic Epic is due in 1 turn. I think we need turns of building before our war with england. England has Gunpowder so maybe we should what for cavs. I have taken most of the ex Bablyon lands taken by spain. We need to slow down the other contient some how.

:beer: [dance]

Nice job on gobbling up those Babylonian cities.

You're right, we'll probably need to re-group before taking on England again, but we've got a much better base to work from. this time. Let's make sure to get Spain as an ally in the next war.

As for the other continent, I'm not sure what we can do about them for a while. We need to catch up on tech and until we can get enough cities to pump up the revenue, that will be tough.

There's a couple of catch up opportunities coming. During the early industrial age the AI tends to go for Nationalism, Communism & Espionage while we have a shot at Scientific Method. If we can get TOE, we'll have the bargaining chip of Atomic Theory & Electronics to catch up and put some of the AI in debt. If TOE looks doubtful, then we research to Espionage, build Intelligence Agency, plant spies and steal our way to parity. Before we start on path # 2, we need to secure our entire land mass as a failed steal might touch off a dog pile on Persia. Lucky for us the AI is pretty bad at across water warfare.

That puts Gozpel up. If any of you are in another SG, you might want to advertise for an Affirmative replacement.

:beer:

Excellent turns conehead :)

I got it.

I will use my turns for build-up of more knights and infrastructure. No worries about knights against muskets, they usually fare pretty well, if used right. Attack from the right terrain and so on and they win :)

i am responding to denyd's spam on the bugs1 ptw game. i can throw my hat into this one if you'll have me. i've never played a 5CC so this should be interesting :)

Welcome aboard

Do you want to slot him in Affirmative's spot or at the end of the order?

FYI: I'll be out of town from noon on the 26th until the night of the 28th and will need to be either waited for or skipped during that period.

I put him on the end. Here is the order.
Roster:
Conehead234
Gozpel-->Up
Ankka -->on deck
Denyd
grahamiam

I was called in to work today and they want me tomorrow as well, if you're impatient you can skip me. Or just be patient for another day?

I was kidding the other day Ankka about real life, now it came and bit me on the bum :D

I see the stalker grahamian is here...Ok, let'im in :)

ha! well, for the record, i'm not stalking you (though it's unnerving that every SG i'm in has you in there too). officially, i'm stalking denyd till he writes my username correctly in one of his posts :p

The Save

Will I stand before the firing-squad very soon or be elected president? :king:

Pre-turn - Scroll through cities as usual, P-Polis is about to riot, fix that.
Change from market to court in Canterbury and rush for 56g.
Susa is about to riot, fix that.
Put some cities on growth.
Change a couple of cities to courts, corruption is awful.

Diplo check - give Spain Theology and 266g for Gunpowder.
We have unconnected saltpeter between Susa and Arbela and another source outside Babylon.

A scientist on PP

400AD - Persepolis Heroic Epic -> knight
Canterbury courthouse -> market
Eridu market -> knight

China completes Magellans! We are so behind.

Buy WM from China for 13g.
Sell it around for 59g.
Give Babs Feudalism for a worker.

410AD - Try to find a way to trade, but Education would take half our current gpt and all gold (420g) and Chemistry would take everything. I send a couple of workers to connect the saltpeter. I have a plan.

420AD - England move 25 or so units through our lands, I keep my mouth shut :) They are returning home it seems.
Warwick court -> market
Arbela court -> pikeman
Rush a worker in Babylon for 20g.

Desperate times needs desperate actions.

I use a spanish worker to build a colony on the saltpeter outside Babylon.
I give Arabs the saltpeter, our dyes, 3 gpt, 399g and WM for Chemistry.
Chemistry to Aztecs for Education, WM and 10 gold.
Sell Chivalry to Spain for their 73g.

Ugh! China, Egypt and Arabs are up Astronomy, Banking and Metallurgy on us. I don't count Music Theory and Navigation.
England and Aztecs knows Astronomy, but not Banking or Metallurgy.

I have to hire clowns and taxmen for a turn, since I traded off our dyes. We will get back incense in one turn and dyes in 3 turns from England trades.

430AD - P-Polis knight -> knight
Babylon worker -> library
Nineveh worker -> library
Leeds barracks -> pikeman

Sell WM around for 14g
Chemistry and 160g to England for Astronomy

440AD - Chinese are building Newtons :crazyeye:

450AD - Antioch pike -> worker
Richmond pike -> pike

Buy WM from China for 13g, sell it around for 38g

460AD - Spain destroy Babylon
Susa courthouse -> FP
Oxford library -> barracks

Mao establish embassy in our capital, how nice.

Sell WM around for 14g.

England knows Banking, time to trade.
Incense, our only dyes, ROP, 25 gpt and 321g to China for Physics.
Physics, our second and last saltpeter to England for Banking, 7 gpt and 65g.
Our only incense and silks, 72 gpt and 80g to Egypt for Theory of Gravity
Banking, Physics to Aztecs for spices, Navigation
ToG and 10 gpt to Arabs for Metallurgy
Metallurgy to England for silks :D

We have 4 gold, MM cities and we make a whopping 4 gpt :goodjob:

This was our only shot of surviving this game with the AI's running away from us. I mortgaged our whole economy to get tech-parity (except MT). I couldn't wait to see the other civs entering IA and our bonustech becoming worthless. Still, with a few markets and banks coming soon, we will survive economically.
If we survive the next 20 turns, we will be able to trade for PP and Magnetism and then we get our free tech. And we will be the hawkers.

Switch P-Polis and Susa to banks

470AD - Arbela pike -> pike

Give Spain Education for 2 workers.
Sell WM around for a few gold

480AD - Eridu knight -> aqueduct
Sell WM around for a few shiny goldpieces
China knows Magnetism

490AD - Egypt also knows Magnetism now

I hope my trading work for us, if not I believe we would've been severely outpaced. So let's hope for peace another 20 turns at least, both England and Spain can probably run over us, if they throw what they have at us.
Continue build those markets and banks and our economy will improve.
Keep a very sharp eye on happiness in cities.
Right now we have 38g and make 9 gpt.

Either I dug our grave or made some genius stuff, time will tell :)

i peeked at gozpel's save to see what I got myself into and all i can say is "wow" :lol: lot's of trouble...

a comment i would like to make is that the next player may, imho, want to consider taxing the heck out of the border, non-productive cities. no use getting more unhappy people if they're not going to contribute ;) you may even want to go to the extreme of tax-starving for a couple of turns just to boost income.

The cities i was looking at were babylon's former core (babylon, uruk (irrigate the cow and we'll have 3 taxmen with no starving), and samaria) as well as some of those southeastern former english cities, but the reality is that all corrupt towns should be game. you may even get a wltkd out of some of them! Also, we need to increase the pop in Pasargadae and Richmond as these are low corruption towns that can contribute. Right now, we owe a total of 107gpt for 17 more turns so anything we can do to increase income will help.

i think if we can somehow pull magnetism out of the bag, and we get lucky on the tech slingshot, we'll be ok if we can sell to china et al.

Hehe, I knew the reaction would be "Ouch" :)
But being 5-6 techs behind when the AI enters industrial age, they would just cruise towards diplo or space win and we would have to sit in the backseat for the rest of the game.

They have been peaceful and trading with each other and nothing says they will stop now. So if we lose because of my trades, I'm happy to step up to the firing range :)

And if we can stay at peace for the remaining trading turns, we have a different game coming. Our economy only seem to be on the brink of collapse, but remember we get a couple of markets and banks within the next 10 turns or so.

Trying to estimate what I traded for and for how much, it's somewhere around 2900 gold for Gunpowder, Education, Astronomy, Banking, Chemistry, Metallurgy, Physics, Theory of Gravity and Navigation.

I like it! I've done similar trades before in my own games and as long as you feed the AI gpt and other beneficiary trades (for them) they usually leave you alone. But I admit I'm a bit nervous about the next couple of turnsets :)

Next player, watch out for unhappiness as cities grows. This is tedious but a must. I spent close to 3 hrs on my 10 turns maximazing output in gold/shields where ever they were needed.

When unhappiness strikes, grahamian's idea of taxmen is viable. I'm not sure how taxmen works with corruption, can you explain that G-man?

The corruption was completely stunning (like one of crackers large maps) and I had to order up courthouses before markets, and still cities lose way too much. I'm a bit mystified over this, we are playing on standard map and I rarely saw corruption this high so close to the capital.

Other options is to try to crank out workers from less productive cities. We are near IA and we will need every worker possible to improve our lands.

And when our economy improves in the next 10-15 turns, keep looking for a trade for Magnetism. If it takes another of our own luxes or whatever, it will be worth it.

The worst that can happen when we enter IA is to get a tech (prolly Nationalism) that other civs have, we still are even then. If we get Steam or Medicine, we are on top.

And trade WM every turn. I usually bought from China, paying a few golds and then selling it around. If a civ offers their WM together with gold, then skip them and only take deals with gold. When all goldpaying civs knows the WM, trade it to a WM dealer and you can sell it again and get a gold from every civ. Do that and surprisingly we can add another 5-10 gpt with a little bit of luck :) Cheesy and boring, but still useful.

iirc, 1 taxman = 1 gold regardless of corruption. that's why i was suggesting that the border cities forgo growth and just tax. we should be able to almost double our gpt by doing this. not great but it's something. i don't see any other option expecially since most are probably running 70 - 95% corruption right now.

map trading every turn is a great idea. :)
