The Save

First, this greedy player took 15 turns. When the setup of the England war was done, I couldn't stop myself. I needed revenge for my early blunder and I fared pretty well.
We got 9 towns and learnt Construction, Mono and Feudalism. We are at peace.

Pre-turn - Looks good, except for a dozen of english troops in our lands :)
Sell WM around to the other continent and gain 6g.
Spain would sell Monarchy for Currency and all our gold + 5 gpt. Everyone on the other continent knows Lit I notice, but only England on our continent. Babs learn Republic and it's only a matter of time before they learn Currency.
I decide to pull the WM trade:

WM to England for Lit, WM and 69g. Lit, Currency, WM and 1g to Spain for Monarchy, WM and 2 workers. I tried to get Construction from Lizzy instead, but that would involve gpt and we didn't want that.

Note: No contacts traded.

The new workers to connect Canterbury.

Anarchy! We draw 2 turns.

350 bc - IT - Another clever move by me obviously, Spain demand contacts and declare war when I refuse. Does this have to do with bad RNG as well? They are already at war with Babs and England, and now us? *sigh*

Sell WM around for a few gold.

330 bc - We are now a Monarchy, with a lone scientist in Persepolis gpt jumped from 8 to 18 gpt.

310bc - Nothing

290bc - IT Civs on the other continent are building Sistine and Leo's.

Pasgadae immortal -> immortal.

270bc - Persepolis market -> immortal. We make 28 gpt and have 246 in the bank

Most of Englands units are at our southern borders, I start moving immortals towards Richmond and Warwick. Upgrade a couple of warriors to immortals.

250bc - Trade WM around for 13g

230bc - Sell WM around for 10g. Rush immortal for 60g.

210bc - Pasgadae immortal -> immortal.
Get Republic,a worker and WM from Babylon for Lit, Monarchy and WM. Sell WM around for 12g.

190bc - All troops in position. Sell WM around for 12g. Spain are willing to speak, wants 100g and WM for peace. Not yet.

170bc - I ask England to remove their troops, they declare war. I kill 2 swords in our territory. All they have in our lands are 4 spears now. I move in 4 immortals to Richmond and 4 to Warwick and 15 to Leeds. This is it, England got MI's.

150bc - Persepolis immortal -> immortal.

Attack Richmond, kill 2 spears, lose an immortal and take the city and 2 workers.
Attack Warwick, kill 2 spears and a MI, lose one immortal and take the city.
Attack Leeds, kill 3 spears, take the city and 2 workers. Capture 3 more workers outside town.

War-happiness and I switch production in Persepolis to a spear a turn.

130bc - Attack Oxford, take the city and a worker without losses.
Rush library in Leeds for 156g

110bc - IT - Spear defends against MI.
Persepolis spear -> spear
Pasgadae immortal -> immortal
Susa market -> immortal
Antioch library -> barracks
Eridu temple -> barracks
Leeds library -> barracks

Kill spear on pillaging mission near Arbela.
Kill 2 MI's with elites, but no luck
Move stack of 12 immortals towards Nottingham

90bc - IT - English MI kills an immortal
Persepolis spear -> horseman

We kill the MI and stand next to Nottingham

70bc - IT - English kills a spear and an immortal
Arbela market -> horseman

England have pikes in Nottingham, cross my fingers
Attack Nottingham: 2 elites and 3 vets attacks flawlewssly and wins against 3 pikes and 3 MI's! We take the city and 2 workers.

Time for peace. Peace Spain and Construction for WM, 238g and 4 gpt.
We learn Monotheism when we enter MA :)
Peace with England for Gloucester, Cambridge, Exeter and Birmingham plus 20g and WM.

I get Feudalism from Lizzy for Mono, 26g and 1gpt.

The other continent is running away techwise, on our own I think we're starting to sit alright now.

A lone scientist on Chivalry, we have 15g and make 56 gpt. We can get 246g for Mono from Spain and Babs have a worker for sale.

We should turn on Babylon next.

Nice work Gozpel :goodjob:

The 4 cities for peace was a great deal. I agree that Hammurabi is next in our sights. Immortals should be productive until muskets arrive so we need to keep popping them out. (actually vet warriors and then upgrade)

Ankka should concentrate on the cities that won't auto-raze (size 2+ cities or culture expansion or the capital) once the war begins and bargain for those during the peace talks. You might consider peace with Spain and then MA with Spain vs Babylon to get some rewards from Spain for the MA.

I noticed that someone (Spain) has finally settled on our peninsula. That should be easy pickings once we start on Isabella. Babylon has 9 cities left, we should be able to take 3-4 and get another 1-2 in the peace deal. Then on to Spain. About the time we're ready for peace with Spain, the peace deal with England should be over and time to chomp on Lizzy for a couple of turns.

I'm not too worried about the other island yet. The AI is terrible at cross water warfare and we've got a long time before any tech based victories can be achieved. It is important to watch the green AI (Japan??) to be sure they don't grow to big over there. At some point soon, we might need to declare war on them and get the other AI to dogpile for us. Remember until Astronomy, we no one over there can reach us.

I'm pretty bad about building embassies, but this might be a good time to get them built across the sea. It's very important to make sure that we keep the two islands in the dark about each other for as long as possible (WM sales are ok, just no contact trading).

BTW: A good job to the player who built the Great Lighthouse earlier. When I first read that. I thought "Why", but it's been a large asset and will probably prove to be one of the keys to our victory.

Edit: Since Affirmative seems to have joined the Federal Witness Protection Program (gone MIA), should we advertise for a replacement?

*struts around proudly* - My only good thing during my breakdown turn was to hurry the Lighthouse with a leader :)

We are at peace with Spain, bought Construction from them to get into MA.

I wonder if horses and immortals will do against Babylon...I think so and we will need to start to build horses for the Chivalry upgrade in x turns.

I know you like warriors-upgrade path denyd, it will be possible when Canterbury is connected from S. Then we can disconnect both irons and build lots of warriors.

That same iron disconnect is probably a good time to start producing a couple of horsemen. The upgrade to knights will provide a quick strike force to compliment our Immortal SOD. Being able to send 20 immortals (w/catapults) at into the opponents core while a 3-4 stacks of 4 knights gobble up the outlying cities is the perfect early middle ages warfare combination.

If we happen to get a GL, either Sun Tzu or FP are probably the best choice. If neither is available then an Immortal army would be pretty much unstoppable.

Looks li,ke nice turns. :)

I'm up in 2 SG's now, maybe I could swap with the next player?

Take your time, we'll wait - we're not facing any deadline.

It'll also let me work on GOTM after finishing back to back SG sessons. If you haven't had a chance to start by the Friday, I'll pick up Friday night.

Preturn: Ok, let's see how we are doing... Looks good...:) Change prefs to my own, check everything and press enter.

IBT: Persepolis horse > horse.
No more resistance in our cities.

50BC [1]: Troops run around... Mainly toward the South, as our next target is Babylon. I decide to ask Lizzy to get her troops outta our area or declare war, she backs out and agrees.

IBT: Lizzy brings the troops back...:rolleyes:

Canterbury rax > lib.

30BC [2]: I again demand Liz to get out of here.

IBT: Persepolis horse > horse.
Pasargadae immo > horse.
Susa Immo > horse.

10BC [3]: Lizzy just doesn't get it. I demand her again out of our area.

IBT: Nottingham flips to the Engliush! :mad: :eek:

I nteresting, as there were more troops there than half of the population...:hmm: It shouldn't flip then, should it?

10AD [4]: Lizzy, get out of there, I say, and she answers "yes, sir."

IBT: The English bring just loads and loads of MI's to the border... what invasion is this supposed to be?

Persepolis horse > horse.
Arbela horse > horse.
Eridu rax > lib.

30AD [5]: Demand Lizzy once again to withdraw her troopers.

Now Spain is also trying to walk through our area, I tell her to get out of there.

They declare war! :o Interesting turn...

A vet immortal gets killed when attacking a spanish spear in our lands. another one wins and gets promoted to veteran.
A vet horse wins against the other spear the immortal got almost killed.

I just realised that Spain has captured many babylonian cities, including Babylon! Seems that they might be a hard bite...

IBT: Lizzy sends more and more troops into our area. I'm getting suspicious.

Susa horse > horse.

China build Sun Tzu's in Beijing.

Egypt starts Copernicus! :eek: Man, the AI researches like mad... oh, but this is on Deity, I almost forgot.

Aztecs start Sistine's and Leo's.

50AD [6]: If the Ai is researching & trading like this, we'll soon have riflemen facing us...

IBT: Persepolis horse > horse.

Arabia also starts Sistine and Leo's.

70AD [7]: :sleep:

IBT: Pasargadae horse > horse.

China is building cop's.

Egypt completed Leo's.

90AD [8]: :sleep:

IBT: Persepolis horse > horse.
Richmond lib > temple.

We get a palace expansion.

Arabia is building Cop's.

China starts Sistine and Cop's.

110AD [9]: too many sleep smilies...

IBT: England and Spain sign peace.

Susa horse > horse.
Warwick lib > rax.
Arbela horse > horse.
Birmingham warrior > temple.
Exeter warrior > worker.
Cambridge warrior > worker.

130AD [10]: Nothing...

Sorry for the boring turnlog.

I got it

Are we at war with Spain??

Not much action after the first 2 turns of battle

I'll have to look at this on and figure out what makes the most sense. Probably won't start until Saturday and finish on Sunday (if someone else wants to grab it and play a set that's fine)

Sorry for the delay

Long term after finishing off Babylon and taking a couple more Spanish cities, we should let the MA end and set up for an attack on England, if we don’t renew the ROP with England, her troops will be a long way from home when we attack. Try for an MA / ROP with Spain when you start.

Cyrus (GL) is sitting in Persepolis waiting for something to do – I thought about an army, but think an FP might be a better choice. I didn’t want to make that decision without asking the team and wanted to finish my turns, so he’s waiting for direction. I think an FP might be the best choice, but I’m not sure where to put it. If an army is the team’s choice then Pasagarde should probably start an FP as a prelude to a palace jump later in the game.

Here is the situation:

Cone1_290AD.jpg

And what are military advisor says about England (we're average against Spain & all the other island AI)

Cone1_Mil.jpg

The military picture was supposed to show that we are strong against England !! :blush:

A couple of comments:

I think we might as well finish off Bablyon now, we can take Samarra & Uruk and that will leave 2 smaller cites. 1 can be taken by a couple of knights heading SW from Uruk and the other will fall quickly to a galley borne pair of units (after they take Lugo)

We should be able to take Ninevah, Ashur & Babylon with the troops we have in the area.

Plan to make peace once the English MA/ROP is over. We should begin our final war with England at that point (would be nice to have Spain as an ally). Manchester & Bristol can be taken by the troops on the peninsula, but be sure to let the English attackers exit the area before starting the war. York, Dover & Nottingham are where the initial attacks should focus with the forces converging on London. When London falls, England is toast. We should move as quickly as possible to acquire the rest of the English cities to prevent flipping (no peace this time).

Once England is gone, we return our troops to acquire the rest of Spain. At that point, it's time for infrastrucure, science and being nice to everyone.

I don't think we are going to be able to win this via space, culture or warfare, so the path to victory is research to scientific method, TOE for the usual AT/Elec. Trade AT to catch up on tech and race to the modern age, hope the Arabs don't get fusion as their bonus tech, build the UN and get enough votes to win. We could try for domination, but with the AI reaching Nationalism very soon, rifles will be everywhere, soon to be followed by infantry. We won't have quality attackers then until tanks and by the time we have enough of them, the AI will be building mechs and space ship parts. This is diety remember and seeing a spaceship launch pre-1750 is not uncommon if the AI's avoid war and research as partners.

It will be a challenge not to lose this one (that's what we wanted anyway).

Conehead234: Any thoughts about advertising for a Affirmative replacement, turns come up pretty often with only a 4 man roster.

Your print screen- finger must have been bad. :p

Nice wormongering as always denyd. :)

Build an army with that leader, I can't see a good place for FP except Pasgadae, so I agree to start handbuild it there.

We will have 2 big wars coming and we should get at least one more leader.

Lets do what Denyd said and try to get a Affirmative replacement. Any thoughts on the leader yet?

At this point, Gozpel is right, an army is the best use for the leader.

Do you want fill it with Knights or Immortals (don't mix)? (or pikeman as the next big defensive thingy :) )

You guys are probably already know this, but for the lurkers, first choice would be the Elite* units, then veterans, because the Elite* can no longer produce a Great Leader (while the other elites can).
