Confusing problems with CIV3 reinstall

Recently I have been playing a bootlegged version of C3C (fo' shame). I legally purchased both CIV3 and PTW. Playing a bootleg coppy of C3C eventually ate away at my concious so I decided to remove it from my computer.

After uninstalling C3C I found that I was unable to play PTW or Vanilla, so I decided to uninstall them aswell. I had no problems up untill I -attempted- to reinstall Vanilla. I had some puzzling complications in doing so.

Here is a diagram of the initial installation process:

"InstallShield Wizard*title*
Civilization III Setup is preparing the InstallShield Wizard, which will guide you through the setup process. Please Wait"

Once the preparing process got to about 95% a strange error popped up:

"Civilization III*title*
Error extracting supported files:

Access is denied"

I continued with the installation despite the alert and found that the license agreement was completely blank, I continued despite that aswell. Alas, these are not the last of my problems.

"Typical" Installation process at 14%

"InstallShield Wizard*title*

Civlization Setup is performing the requested operations

Installing:
C:\... \Inforgames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\EraSplash\modern.pcx"

Alert:

"Component Transfer Error*title*
Compnent: Program Files
File Group: Program Files
File: D:\data2.cab
Error: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)"

After this alert the screen froze up for about three seconds and then the installation window closed.

I suspect that these problems are due to the numerous scratches on the surface of my Vanilla. Alas, I am not an computer expert and I can only guess.

I am considering buying the new "Civilzation III: Complete" boxset to obtain a legal copy of C3C and a working copy of CIV3 (I found a copy on Amazon for 33.70)
I definately will not download a replace copy of CIV3. Bootleg software has plagued my concious already (Even though I recieved a legal copy from my family for Christmas years ago..)

I was wondering if anyone has already encountered this problem with installing CIV3 and could offer me a solution so I do not have to spend money on software I already own(However, I will buy a legal copy of C3C). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

*This is also my first post, I apologize if I have broken any rules*
