I have a question about capturing a Holy City. When I capture a Holy City, do I get the benefits of the religion founder? Can I use a Great Prophet to improve this religion rather than founding one myself?

I noticed that I was able to build (or buy) the building of the religion (one of the beliefs). When I later converted the city, the building from the original religion stayed, and I was not able to produce one of the buildings for my (now dominant) religion. In another city, I did not produce a building of the original religion (it was available), and after conversion I was able to produce one of my religious buildings. I suppose this is an intentional design choice to prevent players from stacking multiple religious buildings in one city?

Can I win a Religious VC with a captured holy city and spamming missionaries/apostles?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but be careful not to spam them from the city you just captured if it holds another religion. You will spam missionaries that AREN'T your religion. Make sure you spam them from cities that are converted to YOUR religion.

By capturing holy city you will def get a huge boost in faith your generating. So you will have lots more faith to spend :)

No, you cannot. You must be the founder of a religion and then win with the religion you founded (what doesn't work is to found a religion, then see it overwhelmed by another religion, and then you conquer and spread that other religion).

Anybody know what happens if you conquer your neighbor, adopt his religion and then spread it to the world? Does your now-dead neighbor win a religious victory?

If the civ has been eliminated altogether, no. If the civ is still alive, probably (though I've never seen such a civ survive).
