conquests diplomacy error

hi, I've recently installed Civ3 Conquests. When I start up a new game everything looks ok and I play for a while. then I come into contact with another civ and whenever i try to contact them (the right-click on unit contact civ) the game crashes. I tried to make the other civ contact me first by moving my warrior into their border but the game crashes the next turn. Anybody have any idea what's going on?
