I have been trying to access the conquests.ini file but I have not been able to locate it. I have disabled hidden files and tried everything I can think of.

I am running a 64 bit Windows 7 machine, with Civilization 3 Conquests Complete.

I didn't have this problem with my original Civ 3 Conquests a few years ago, so I suspect its something to do with Windows 7 or C3 Complete or both.

If anyone has a similar set-up and has encountered this problem I would appreciate a solution. I need to fix the barbarians and what not!

I know this might seem like an obvious instruction, but have you used the good ol' trusty F3 key? I suddenly found six copies of units folders in the main C:\ directory and had no idea how they'd got there :dunno: Windows somtiems cheats.

I have tried multiple searches, I am at a loss as to the solution, thats why I am here.

What I have tried so far:

  • Set all folder and files to lowest security/maximum openness. Unsuccessful.
  • Installed a fixed .exe to get conquests to run on its own. Unsuccessful.
  • Searched the registry for the file. Unsuccessful.
  • Searched all locations for the file. Unsuccessful.

HELP!

I learnt this from the first copy of Civ3 I had. I've been running Conquests alot the last couple of days. I've had four or five games go up to the Medieval era while I was fine tuning the settings in the Edit.

I also started a couple of Vanilla games just for this.

I've started the game from the Complete shortcut on the desktop about 10 times, just now I installed the Conquest.exe fixed exe so I could get conquests on its own, started that four or five times. I've started Vanilla about 3 times with a fixed .exe today as well.

I also saved the game on each occasion.

Did you do anything specific when you ran a few games to get the .ini to appear?

What would happen if I got a conquests.ini from somewhere else and put it in the folder? I assume the .ini is actually there in the folder, I just can't access it. Maybe it would copy it over and I'd have a visible one?
