Bad marketing ...

Unattainable? There's a big manual, a teach tree and a great DVD with a game and five languages to pick from. The only thing it lacks is the silly spiral and the dull fake leather box. I'd say that is a pretty good deal for a "standard" edition.

I can't get excited for getting a manual - games always came with manuals until game companies decided to put them as PDF on the cd (without lowering the price of course).

A spiral bound manual on the other hand would be a great asset, as I for one will want to refer to the manual a lot in the beginning, and a big "regular" manual can't be laid open on your desk.

The nice box, the soundtrack cd... I admit, it's not that I can't live without those, but the point is us europeans get the shaft again, americans being able to get more for the same price (actually, seeing the low dollar, they get it for less).

So my "bad marketing" comment still stands.

You can whine  all you like, of course. It's true that there wasn't a pre-order in Europe. With language barriers, a fragmented market and an American firm, I suppose European marketing wasn't their top priority.

I'm just going to enjoy a great game in a week or so. :D

And having it delivered to my home for € 26.60 incl. free shipping is a great price. :king:

So is the manual 220 pages in English or 44 pages in English, German, Spanish, French and Italian?

We'll know tomorrow!

And the soundtrack cd? :D

Hehe seriously, I ordered the pre-order edition just to get it week earlier than european DVD.

It's that the pre-order version or the retail?

edit: ugh, didn't read properly. Never mind.

I've asked ColdFever / Kai of Civilized.de where the photo of the contents came from whether he knew. He answered me that he wasn't sure, but that his best guess was that the manual would be 220 pages in German for the German edition of the game. You can verify in the photo that the tech-tree is also in German. One could conclude that the five languages will have the manual completely translated into their language, with most countries getting the English version unless their national language is one of the other four.

Edit: In Netherlands and Belgium the manual and Tech Tree are in Dutch :wallbash: while the game itself is still in English.

I wonder, does the British version get Nimoy or have they found some Brit to do it? I know that his voiceovers are actually one of the little things I'm looking forward to, but I'm an unabashed trekkie anyways. Good thing I'm getting the US Version.

I bought the German DVD release and installed the game in English. It has Spock's voice, so it will be the same for the UK release. Also, there is no PDF version of the manual on the DVD, and the manual (the 220 pages) is completely in the language of the version you bought, it isn't multilingual.

Correct. In the Netherlands and Belgium they even have the manual and tech tree translated into Dutch :wallbash:.

The game itself doesn't have a Dutch language, so there's no way to cross reference any info from the manual to the game other by re-translating it.

Now I'm really glad I ordered it from the UK. I believe that when possible everything should be read in its original language, even a thing like a tech tree. I was thinking about cancelling my order and buying it in a shop tomorrow (as it is apparently possible in some places in the Netherlands), but not anymore.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I live in Belgium, and I hate manuals in our language :( It doesn't match the game and it's just plain... stupid...

still waiting for my local shop to get it, so I can buy it...

Wait, the Europeans get a printed manual? Did the US version come with a printed manual too? I just bought this game in Canada, and I got a manual on a freaking disc. I'm pissed.

The US version also comes with a printed manual, and I think some Canadians also got a printed manual. It's just in the past couple days that Canadians reported a PDF manual on an extra disk. I think they were bought from Future?

In that case, EliteLord, you may also consider getting it from play.com for instance. It will most probably be delivered early next week, and they charge € 26,50 (if you pay in GPB) including shipping. That's quite plezant. :D

Great. That's just sodding typical. Why are so many things left in English in this stupid country? Is it so hard to translate form English to Dutch? What's the point of translating the manual but not the game interface. There are around 20 million Dutch speakers in Europe... [pissed]
