As we all know one cheap and fast way to get units like Riders are to disconnect our Iron sources, start the production of Horsemen and reconnect the Iron source. When the Horsemen are built we upgrade them.

This sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately, we have built a city on top of one of our Iron sources. Disbanding it is of course not an option, so the only alternative is the disconnect the city.

E_T of Apolyton has sent a proposal for how we can accomplish this:
Numbers 1 & 2 - need 3 workers each. Pillage tiles, when workers are all ready and then start mining after Pillaging. Mine is ready at the begining of the next turn and no Productivity lost due to the mine being pillaged.

Number 3 - You will need to cut this, once you have the road to the north completed. You northern cities will STILL be connected to your trade network (and thereby have lessened corruption) through the Apolyton Road network. If this isn;t cut, the Iron will go thought Apolyton back to your Capitol and thereby, the rest of your cities.

Number 4 - This can be cut and reconnected the same turn, with 2 workers. You pillage the road, you then change your builds from Riders to Horsemen (or pikes to spear or MI's to Warriors) and then you rebuild the road. The only city that would still have the Iron would be that one.

As long as you don't get any technologies, while your building the Horsemen, then they will not autoupgrade. If you time things right, you would only have to do this every couple of turns. The main thing that this will do, is have your Iron disconnected, for the vital part of the turn, for changing of builds and still show, to any outsiders, that you have your Iron connected.

This would be great to help build up of the main invasion against GWT/GCA, in the near future (roughly 50 to 60 turns).

Now, this seems ok, and I want to know what everyone else thinks. Though E_T doesn't mention our second Iron source. It is located on the only mountain road connecting the eastern and western parts of our Empire. We will have to build a road around this one as well for the Iron Plan to succeed.

Any comments?

I already told Apolyton quite some time ago that this was not an option --- mostly due to the folly of disconnecting Yun Qiuling, but also the fact that 100g to upgrade each Horseman is more than we can raise, especially if Poly still expects money from us.

We have several cities producing 9-10 spt, with more such cities on the way once the FP is built. We should stay the course, and build up what we have.

It's seemingly pointless either way... :(

I thikn it's too hard, ,we have to disconnect so many roads and also one near Xin Yun Feng... Would take some income, too.

It is possible though, and if people are willing to do it, I'll say it's worth it.

DZ: If you look at the budgets or our gpt you see that we are making over 100 Gold each turn. Of course, if Apolyton still needs money we might not be able to get 100 Gold ready each turn for upgrades, but it's not that unthinkable.

Though we would need a lot of workers and would loose some commerce in Yun Qiuling...

Yes, our produtivity with workers would be less. We wouldn't get so improved area elsewhere.

We're getting about a 100 Gold each turn. We could send up to 50 Gold to Apolyton each turn and still upgrade a horseman every second turn.

That's so much to pillage though! I don't think I'm really a fan of this. We could use the money to rush libraries and stuff instead, while building units.

Don't let 'em talk you guys into disconnecting Yun Qiuling. We can use the extra gold to rush less expensive units in shield-poor cities. For example, rushing Caravels in our Harbor towns would be a much better use of our gold. Or the occasional city improvement, as Hygro has mentioned.

My sentiments exactly :goodjob:

Yes it's a lot of pillageing. I don't think I support it either. We can get about 5 Riders in 8 turns or so if we want to prioritise military.
