My missionary did a great job converting a native. Then I noticed that village offered to teach “master tobacco planter.” Hummm. . . could I get my converted native from that same tribe to become a master tob. Planter? YEP!

So let me see if I get this: This native grew up in the tribe, but they never let him in the tepee where they teach tobacco planting? Only once he converts do they teach him to plant tobacco.

:rotfl: ....there was a similar thread for CIV IV entitled "So Stupid its Funny", which grew to be a monster thread..Maybe this is post #1 of that thread for COL..

What do the natives say to the one who just converted, then shows up on their doorstep: "Hey, I hear there's a few things you stinkers didn't tell me."

But father, I want to become a master tobacco planter now !

No my son, only if you attend alot to the preachings of the missionary and dress up in a silly suit like the pale one does. On that day you are ready to become a master tobacco planter.

lol - I think only the plebs convert because the chief won't let them do any of the fun stuff....

Well save for kicking the butt of AI colonialists, drinking rum, carrying guns while riding horses and smoking cigars while getting neat tools and trade goods sold to them by the europeans whoms butts they dont kick while giving them a few of those strange golden trinkets which are no use but decoration and some lousy raw materials. :p
Or getting those trinkets they gave away back for kicking even more AI colonialists butts.
(And they say Peter Minuit made a good deal...? :p)

Sounds like fun stuff as well... :p

Looks like only the natives which don't like above things / activities whould join the colonials. Go figure why no one wanted to play with them before... :p

exactly why they "convert" :) haha :D

The logic problem is probably why they weren't allowed to be trained at a native village in Colonization I.

The problem arises in that in this game, you can clear professions. In the original you could not. So conceivably you could just bring him back to your colony, train him, and then reassign his profession to become a Free Colonist. Then send him back over to the Native village. The solution is kind of strange (reassigning turns them back into a native convert), and the current system, while somewhat strange, is probably for the best.

yeah it doesn't really bother me... we're talking about master's here... not just every day joe tobacconist... not everyone in the tribe had to be a master at it :)

Better question is, do you really want to do it?

Converted natives, like Indeturned Servants, earn just 2 education points, which is also reflected in slower training with natives. Better train Free Colonist and use Converted Natives for gathering jobs you don't have specialist for.

I wanted my army to consist solely of converted Natives, so they'd fight my war for me, but you can't make them into soldiers :(

Its better when he grows up in a village that teach sugar planters.. because then he has a sex-change too when he learns how to grow sugar :)

Which would explain his previous hesitation to learn sugar planting, and also his desire to convert. :)

So the only way for a native village to "produce" women is to force teach the young adult men sugar planting ? :crazyeye:

Which in turn whould be another reason for them to convert. One hell of a reason (severe shortage of women). ;) Poor sugar-planter(ess) tribe btw. (Given how rare they are.) ...
