I have a really cool way to play civ 3. It is how i always play. Ok so go in to the civ editor, pick a map or another mod and load it. Then go to general settings in rules and make min and max tech 100 turns, for both ;) Now find the number of years that go by per turn, and make EVERY one just 1 year per turn. save the map AS A NEW NAME!!! Now go play!!

what will happen is all research only happens every hundred years. So you may not invent a tech. You will have plenty of time to acquire the techs the other civs have reasereshed, and the game will flow EXACTLY to real time. You will have giant wars, maybe many in each era. Big caveman wars!!! Maybe its not for you, but try it out, you just might like it. This will take VERY long to play a game, but it feels really cool when you can have a 300 year war in 1,000 bc.

And i think this makes playing on the harder difficulties more fun, because the whole world develops together for the most part.

This is my first post in civfanatics, and maybe somebody else already has had this done, besides anybody can go and change it. Please let me know if you think this is a fun way to play. :D

300 turn warrior wars?
Where do I sign up!
Doesn't this favor early UUs waaaaaay to much?

If every turn is one year, wouldn't the game end in 3460 BC? (540 turns, 540 years.)

Or does that change make the number of turns increase, rather than the number of years decrease?

Just click one more turn ;) and yea rome will be really powerful getting to 1 ad

i play like this on ryise and fall so its the whole earth and all the civs. there are alot of special units in that mod

and you don't need to sign up, its just how the game was made :) i'm just sharing.

Well, if your minimum and maximum research time is 100 years, unless you do a LOT of tech trading, it will, in theory, take 8300 years, until 4300 AD to research all of the techs. The possession of the Great Library would be of enormous value, as it would be available for so long, as with the slow moving game, you would likely have contact with a lot of civilizations. So would building the Theory of Evolution, or being a Scientific civilization with the bonus tech at the start of each new era.

On a large or bigger continent or archipelago map, the Seafaring civilization with the early curragh would have a good edge, as would any civilization with an early Unique Unit. Not a good game for a Space Race victory, or civilizations with Industrial Age or Modern Age unique units.

yep tech trading is the most important thing. in fact the amount you spend on research has no effect, but you do need the minimum. Tech trading is the only way to get far at all. Even if you are the most advanced and declare war on everybody you will fall behind, because they are all trading with each other and not you!! (kinda like what happened to hitler.)

I recommend researching far down one path, for a unique unit, and then buy the less strategic techs.

Don't forget to talk to your neighbors every hundred years :)

also if you want to get fancy you can set the start date and the era the civs all start in....

You should read the AI factors for choosing a tech - they will all research he same techs if they are all the same price (except if there is a UU involved).
