Copy Protection problems...

before anyone starts getting upset, i didn't copy the game. I bought it. But, when i try to run it on my laptop (the only comp. i have running at the moment) it just gives me an error saying that it can't find the cd...

stupid firewire CD drive...

anyway, does anybody have a solution for this? thanks,

I just think it's sad i had to crack a piece of software that i bought... this copy protection stuff is a waste of time. the pirates can crack it instantly ( i found a toolkit that does it automatically!) and the people who buy it have to live with errors and incompatibilities... stupid.

Anyone else experiencing this problem: When I try and load the game the screen flashes up there and then disappears and I am back into windows. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this?

I was having issues on my old piece of crap cd-rom (I did buy the game!). If you're having issues, try this site:

They've got a nocd executible so you can bypass the idiotic SafeDisc2 crap. I can't tell you how many games I've paid good money for don't run because of that garbage software. Oh well. Hope that works for you.

I really hope there arent too many out there in the boat I am.

Because of my DVD drive and the "safedisk" software, civ3 wont run on my computer. There IS a remedy to this, BUT Im not allowed to have it because I dont live in North AMerica, I have been told to "contact my local tech support" but there are none in New Zealand!

I might live in a small country, and there is no way Id expect Firaxis to open up a branch here but I feel really left out on a limb. : (

I have tried everything from gamecopyworld to hours and hours and hours of endless toggling. I would guess it is probably against Firaxis's policy but is there any one that could give me a hand or totally BLOW MY SOX OFF by sending me a copy of Firaxis's modified exe file for version 1.17.

I am nothing short of desperate to play this game, I have waited over a month now spending hours a day trying to remedy the problem, I wouldnt be surprised if those living with me thought I was a bit nuts - but its just I so desperately want to finally play civ3.

If any one could email me this file and finally put me out of my misery I would be phenominally happy, it would make my year!

I can't wait to finally join in on this (what looks like) awesome game

Pascal, I have the same complaint. I am in Australia and when I go to the support site to request the non safedisked .exe they say they will only send it to residents of America. They say for anybody else to contact your local support as written in the back of the manual.
So I get out my manual and go to the Aus and NZ support page in the manual, and guess what? Those guys ARE our local support!
Oh, and get this, I don't have the safedisk problem on the unpatched game. As soon as I install the patch I can no longer play the game. If I unistall and reinstall the game without the new patch I can play again.
I have also been looking for a nocd hack, but so far there doesn't seem to be one for the 1.17 patch yet.
