COR2: Dixieland!

Looking over our land I see the need to enslave the whole Zulu nation. They do not deserve to have that irigatable land and four posible tobacco plantations. And tow of those plantatiosn will produce double crops! Ivory will be our major export, not cotton. The Zulu also have some of this to dilute the world market and lower our prices.

I slow the growth in Richmond get the granary before the population increase. Speed up barrack in Savannah. I take science to 100%. While doing our own research, it is better to go 100% as long as we can then drop down closer to the end.

2310BC-1 Exploring the horrible land known as Tundra.
2270BC-2 Grateful we live in a warm climate.
2230BC-3 Shaka learned the wheel but wants both CB and Masonry for it. Masonry and our 30g is only close.
2190BC-4 Shaka founded Bapedi south of his ivory. Richmond granary-->settler Savannah barrack-->spearman Savannah's conscript heads to the choke.
2150BC-5 Complete the land survey of Dixieland. I am leaving one scout in the far NE to look across a strait for any other civs.
2110BC-6 Watching the wheat grow.....
2070BC-7 Watching the wheat grow again......
2030BC-8 Alphabet completes and start on writing. On Monarch, I see no reason not to rush to Philosophy, pick up Math as the free tech and build Zeus in Savannah. Savannah spear-->curragh Alphabet and 19g gets us the Wheel. Horses are right next to Zimbabwe and near the choke on our side. Another Reason for Zeus.
1990BC-9 Sitting on the dock of the bay......waiting for our ship to be built.
1950BC-10 I have our worker roading the ivory near Savannah. This is not necessary. Send him to rode/mine the last wheat so our next town can go on the coastal hill north of Richmond. Settler and curragh are both due next turn. Savannah needs to produce a couple more spears and then switch to a temple if we want to build Zeus there.

The Game

Preturn: Wake our lonely worker up as suggested.

Turn 1: Savannah builds Curragh, starts Temple. Richmond builds settler, starts Curragh. Science cannot be sustained at this rate right now; set it to 10% as we can't do better than min research (treasury is empty). Shaka could buy a tech from us, but he only has 29 gold, which isn't enough to sustain defecit research and would be a mighty bad deal for us anyways. Will check again once we build our next town. The C.S.S. Virginia sets sail.

Turn 2: Sit out on the porch of my, uh, cave. Mighty fine sir, mighty fine.

Turn 3: Found Mobile up on the coastal hill as suggested. Starts worker-oops, starts Curragh ;) Science to 80%, breaking even. Writing due in 25.

Turn 4: The Virginia discoverd an island of our western coast a few turns ago; so far seems to be uninhabited.

Turn 5: Richmond builds Curragh, starts settler. The C.S.S. Hunley sets sail (yeah, I know the names don't make alot of sense; its been awhile since I read up on the Confederate navy). She sails east. Our boys have blockaded the two tile choke-none of them Zulus are getting into our property, no sir! The western island, which I shall call Cuba from now on, is small and unihabited, but has some mighty fine tobacco and whales, so it might be worth settling.

Turn 6: Not much

Turn 7: Writing is now due in 16.

Turn 8: Cotton is king, son. Never forget that. Shaka has researched Horseback Riding. Trade him Masonry and Warrior code for HB+all of his 29 gold.

IBT: The Zulu begin construction of some new-fangled pyramids; should they actually manage to build them fancy things in size 1 Zimbabwe, why, we might just have to challenge ol' Shaka to a duel!

Turn 9: Sailin', sailin' the ocean blue.

Turn 10: Science to 100%, writing due in 13 @ -3gpt (will go back up when pop recovers and another city is founded. Savannah starts the Collossus, due in 29 (prebuild; although we could always just build it if we feel like it). Richmond starts curragh since I can't decide what else to build; don't want to take it off settler production but it lacks the food to sustain constant production and needs a break in between. We could give the other mined wheat from Savannah back and have that city work the forest instead, cutting four turns of the prebuild and freezing its growth. The culture expansion from the temple will change this, I think. I will leave that up to the next player. Settler left unmoved.

Actually the CSS Hunley was a submarine, but the name will work. If Richmond completes the curragh it just started, name it the CSS Alabama. She was the South's most successful reaiding vessel sinking or capturing 64 merchant ships across the Atlantic.

That does it, I'm subscribing to this thread. :goodjob:

Sorry; I'm here, but I won't be able to get to it until tomorrow night.

Corrado? Where have you gone off to again?

hmmmm. looks like this thread died off pretty quick.

*goes off to look for a replacement game*

Sorry guys, I wasn't really bailing on you, it's just a bit frustrating for the sg to die one round in. If you still want to continue, let me know.

After much debate and long orations on state house floors across the south, The Confederacy will continue!

The CSS Virginia is exploring our northern coast while the CSS Hunley is working east on the south coast.

As tempting as building the Colossus is, Savannah has our only Barrack and I need it to produce Veteran Troops. Richmond with our granary will continue to sent out settlers. Mobile gains use of two BG to complete the CSS Alabama next turn.

Our only neighbor is the Zulu with nothign to offer but some nice land we will one day claim.

Our scientists are working hard on learning the art of writing.

1600BC-1 Mobile CSS Alabama-->temple

1575BC-2

1550BC-3 Savannah spears.

1525BC-4 Charleston(SC--Home of Ft. Sumter) founded on coast south of Richmond. Starts a temple ot bring in wheat and Whale.

1500BC-5

1475BC-6 Richmond settler-->settler Savannah spears. Hunley strikes out exploring some sea lane.

1450BC-7 Being historically accurate, the CSS Hunley never returned to port.

1425BC-8

1400BC-9 Galveston(TX) founded on west side of southern peninsula oposite of Charlston and starts a temple to get the fish. (At the time of the Civil War, Galvest was the #3 sea port in the Gulf of Mexico behind Mobile and New Orleans. I had to get a Texas city in here. Texas was one of the first seven states to form the Confederacy.)

1375BC-10 Savannah spear-->settler. Savannah is large enough to overcome the lack of granary.

One spear is heading south to Galveston. I keep forgetting to rename the CSS Alabama. She is off the southern tip heading up towards Galveston. The CSS Virginia is still working on the north coast. We need to find some source fo forced labor. I almost made the mistake of asking our own citizens to pick up a shovel. Writing in 2 then on to Philosophy.

Who wants to be next?

I can't really make sense of the order looking back over the posts, but I'm gonna give it a go round.

I got it, y'all.

Everything looks pretty good. We’re really gonna have to do something about our worker situation. Drop sci to 50%. We only have 7 gold in the bank, guess we don’t have much to buy them with.

1350 bc (1) – First official business is to rename CSS Alabama. Zulu found Intombe near chokepoint. I begin to rearrange troops so we can still blockade after border expansion.

1325 bc (2) – We discover writing, on to philo in 18.

1300 bc (3) – Richmond settler -> spear. Zulu have no workers, but we send them writing + 1g for IW. Well, this certainly bodes well for us, there are 3 sources of iron on our side of the chokepoint!! The Zulu have a fourth source. Will no one else have iron?

1275 bc (4) – Savannah settler -> settler. We’re gonna need another unit to complete the blockade when the cultural expansion happens. Redirect worker to connect iron outside Mobile. Will take about about a dozen turns to get it connected, as its on a hill next to a mountain.

1250 bc (5) – Random movements.

1225 bc (6) – Mobile temple -> scout (for blockade). Still no workers for sale.

1200 bc (7) – Huntington started, begins barracks.

1175 bc (8) – Mobile scout -> settler. Jackson founded (a bit close to Mobile) but they’ll only be sharing water, basically. Start barracks.

1150 bc (9) – Savannah settler -> spear. Send pair to loc near cattle. Still no workers.

1125 bc (10) – Not much. Leave movement of the Alabama to whoever is next. I was going to suicide it south of it’s current location, but whatever is good.

Recap – We have two more cities, and one more in three turns. Our treasury is pathetic due to lack of roads, but I wanted to push towards philo ASAP. Once we get iron and a couple of barracks, I would suggest churning swords wherever possible. We all know how the Zulu get when they run out of space.

Southern ore

And my attempt at a dotmap. Settler pair en route to red dot. Blue dots are non-negotiable if we want to be able to irrigate prior to Electricity. Green I'm hesitant about due to volcanos. Yellow seems a bit close to northern blue. White seem OK, but it may be a bit early for those.

Edit: I circled Zulu iron on minimap.

Lurker comment/question: I've never been this pressed on fresh water, but can't the irrigation travel between the tiles NE - NE-E of the settler? Leaving just one of the blue dots non-negotiable?

BTW: Nice variant - good luck getting those slaves!
BTW2: Are you keeping your original worker when the slaves arrive?

@datsekker -- I believe you are right about those spaces. I definitely missed that one. :) Good observation.

Now let's see if we can actually keep this game alive, it has certainly had it's stops and gos.

BTW@ -- I think that we should keep our slave, the variant is to not BUILD any. As it is, that will be the only worker that benefits from our industrious trait, at least until RP (still not sure how the ind/RP combo works with slaves).

Computer at home is down right now (messed around to much with file types) and I may not have time to get it up and running today since I have a track meet. If Corrado comes back, he can take it, otherwise I will play as soon as I get civ working again.
