Corruption shields

Hi everyone. Just a quick question here. I find, as I am sure most of you do, that the corruption level is very high the further away from the main city I build. I know that various improvements nibble away at the commerce lost to corruption, but how do I deal with the shield loss? I built a courthouse in a city and it reduced the corruption in commerce but it didn't change the shield loss. Do certain improvements reduce the shield loss, or can't you alter it?
Thanks a lot,
Kev.

Actually Courthouses and other corruption reducing buildings do affect shields as well. But when determining by how much corruption is reduced, each improvement slices a percentage off the corruption based on the total amount of corruption in your city, and rounds this down.

So if you have 2 red (wasted) shields and an improvement reduces corruption by 25%, it would shave off 0.5 wasted production, but this gets rounded down to 0 - so there is no effect.

That doesn't mean they are useless of course - you'll be very glad you have Courthouses around when your cities grow.

Thanks Isak. I did wonder if that might be the case, but I assumed it wasn't so. Appreciate the help, and I have just rushed a courthouse elsewhere, and it did indeed improve the shield waste, as you have stated.
Thanks again,
Kev

Thanks for the great link sanaz. One more question. Do things like temples and marketplaces also reduce shield waste, or is it just the courthouses?

surfersjk: No problem - I spent a lot of time wondering about this originally.

I think the total list of corruption reducers is very short: Courthouses, Police Stations and Forbidden Palace - that's it (I need to check, but I think these are the only ones)

Sanaz: Thanks for the tip - I had no idea corruption was that complicated

Police Stations...

according to the civlopedia it only reduces war weariness right?
and when i edit the rules in the editor the defult rule is it only reduces war weariness...?????

Marketplaces can help with corruptiuon/waste indirectly, if you have more than 2 luxuries and the extra happiness will bring about WLTKD. You need 6 population, no unhappy, and more happy then content for this. So a temple/cathedral won't help much, unless it keeps away the unhappy. Same goes for the great wonders - they help keep away unhappiness (more content), but won't necessarily cause happiness. So, when the population is growing, build marketplaces.

And I believe that the manual is incorrect or outdated - police stations do help now with corruption/waste. And I still don't know the difference between the two - one is for money, one for shields, but they always seem to change together.

Also an idea, in the editor you can reduce or increase corruption game wide. You can only do this in newly made games. I really enjoy 0% corruption games! :)

I think the problem concerning Police Stations in the manual happened because they only started to combat corruption after one of the patches. Before 1.16 I think it was, they only helped war weariness.
