Cost of unit maintenance

Has the incremental cost of unit maintenance been worked out? Is it something simple like +1 gold per era? Just trying to figure out what Freedom's 8 maintenance free units will be doing for me by the time I get it.

I'm pretty sure it's not by era, but by what turn you're on.

Unit Maintenance is entirely based on turn number.

OK, so back to the main question. Anyone got a rough idea how it escalates?

I think there was a thread in the Strategy forum which told you the exact maintenance cost for each unit the game goes on.

I believe it is based on how many units do you have and the number of turns: the more turns and more units, the higher the cost for each unit.

If I remember correctly, I think my maintenance costs were about 3 or 4 gold per unit in 1800-1850 AD.
