COTM 31 First Spoiler

Reading Requirements
  1. You must be able to research a Middle Age technology.

Posting Restrictions
  • No discussions of the middle ages (or later)
  • No screenshots of any middle-age (or later) resources.

Discuss any AI contacts or agreements you make; just limit screenshots to the immediate area, perhaps no more than 15 moves from the starting location.

So, did you meet any Conquistadors? :D Probably more than you've ever seen before! How is your game going? Have you been able to restore the Aztec empire, or has the AI got you cornered in? And how fast did research go?

I was truely shocked when at least 5 Conquistadors wandered past Tenochitlan. And extremely fearful. Could add more but might spoil so wont.

Predator class, going for a research win – probably diplo because I doubt I’ll have the patience to milk a large map for an extra 40 turns, but we’ll see.

The Ancient Age went by very quickly with no real action. There was just peaceful expansion and the struggle to get on top of the tech race. The capital was founded on the spot while the worker went to mine a BG before chopping the game forest and watching nervously as all the conquistadors traipsed through :scared:. The entire Ancient Age, the AI loved marching through my territory – I’m not sure if they were constantly fighting each other or barb hunting, but they left me alone.

The capital built 1 warrior, then a granary, 1 settler, then I think 1 worker and 1 more warrior before it was operating as a 4-turn factory.

Trading was non-existent early as all AI I met had everything I had and then some. In 3050 BC, the Spanish even started the Great Library . My research went Alphabet then Writing at maximum, but I was the last civ to each of them. By the time I had Writing, Philosophy was known of course, but Code of Laws was still unknown. By the time I completed it, 4 civs had beaten me to it, but I still managed to trade it and a total of 3 gpt around and gained Literature, The Wheel, Philosophy, Bronze Working, Masonry, Iron Working, Map Making, Mathematics, Mysticism, Ceremonial Burial, and 30 gold :smug:.

In 1100 BC, I learned Republic as a monopoly and used it to pick up Polytheism, Currency, Construction, and all the gold in the world and entered the Middle Ages.

QSC (actually in the Middle Ages barely, but it just feels like it should be in the first spoiler):

14 towns
44 citizens
1 settler
26 workers
9 warriors
2 archers

open,going for 20K culture

Was very shocked to see many conquistadors that early.
Built culture city in 3250 BC N,N of starting location. Built firstly Collosus because i was afraid of losing it ( Spain started building it really early ), just then temple. Culture City was maximized in 1300BC. Capital was building 4 turn workers till maximization of culture city, later it built granary and settlers.
Tech pace was really fast. I didn't even try slingshot. Got Republic in 900BC from library. Entered middle ages in 1100BC with techs gained from Great Library. AI's were agressive:many times passed my borders, extorted me 7 times in Ancient Age for techs and gold.
In 1000BC i had:
1 city, 4 towns
20 citizens,
5 workers,
few warriors for mp

Culture city buildings:
1910BC The Collosus
4 turns later Temple
1200BC The Great Library
1100BC Library

We are second in tech together with England. Spanish are ahead Republic and already in MA for some time.

No wars in AA.

build granary-jaguar
[...]
3800 a Spanish conquistador says hello

Quite a bold start.
Kind of lucky you had no treasuries for them to pillage by then... :D I guess they will regret that missed opportunity later... :D

Great date to reach MA!

Too late for QSC, barely in time for spoilers, but I felt like playing this one and I'll just post for the hell of it.

Entered the MA on turn 75 IIRC, so not long before QSC, and drew 7 turns of jolly good anarchy. Traded republic around so that Maya and England, the current leaders and the guys with what my scouts gather to be promising lands, can be my teching partners and prosper with me. Traded monarchy to most of the others.

QSC is 2 turns from coming out with a government;

18 Cities
53 Citizens
0 settler
18 workers
18 Warriors
1 curragh
1 galley

892g +6gpt
180/300 beakers (in anarchy 36/turn) into Literature, the only AA tech missing. Spain is still up Feudalism on me.
