You may only read this thread if:
  1. You have completed and submitted your game.

Posting Restrictions:
  1. None! As long as its related to the GOTM, and within the forum rules!
  2. And ... Absolutely NO discussion of any other active 'X'OTM contest!

Please cover any and all aspects of your submitted game. Being Warlord level, you should be able to practically write your ticket - how did your game go?

Domination in 1912. Geez, what a slog. In my starter thread, I indicated the Ottomans got wiped in 3000BC, turns out they were blitzed by the Hittites. My targets were Russia, then Korea (who got an even crappier island than I did!), China and America. I particularly liked how the rest of the opponents stood around and watched as I stomped them.
They finally got wise by the time I got to the eastern continent, as Arabia allied with the Hittites (their Turkish conquest essentially split them in two parts with Arabia in between). I was able to bribe Sumeria in, and while Sumeria didn't do much, it probably kept them busy enough to make it easier.
Made 6 armies during my conquests, 4 of them stuck on the western continent. Was going for combustion when the game ended. This game was unusual in that I switched govs 4 times: Monarch, Feudalism (which for once actually paid off), Republic (once I got established on the western mainland), and Commie to end (to get some production out of my conquered cities).
Ran into the "crash on victory screen" bug, was able to fix according to the thread in tech support.

20k in 1884. I gradually eliminated the Chinese, Russians, Americans, and Koreans, but didn't get a leader until near the very end - Heroic Epic wasn't until 1848. Research speed was an issue, and Kyoto built a lot of units while I waited out the industrial age.

Ok, as I said in the previous spoiler, I researched Monotheism and then traded Feudalism and Enineering from Korea and Russia. Then researched Chivalry with medium priority. Didn't want my GA to start too early, because I had just moved my capital to China at the end of the AA in 300AD. So I used the time necessary for researching Mono & Chivalry for setting up a productive core around the new capital, which means letting the towns grow a bit and completing market places everywhere.
Next to building the GLH by hand, I also decided that I would have to build Artemis myself, if I wanted to get it in time... So when I finished Chivalry, I attacked America with Samurais and then used the GA for building Artemis in the capital (was making 37spt lateron) and for building and cash-rushing a large Samurai force. This was around 500 AD. It was good luck, that just a few turns earlier Washington had finished the Pyramids... :D.
After America, I moved on to Korea and Russia (using my old ship chain from the China conquest to attack Korea). Simultaneously I set up two more ship chains to the other continent, but still progress was very slow, and I reached domination in 740 AD.

Domination in 1864 AD.

I entered MA at 50 BC and immediately switched government to Feudalism. The Republic would been perfect because I didn't have many units anyway, but unfortunately no one researched it until 550 AD.

A small force was sent to Russia and China to grab as much land as possible between 350 AD and 460 AD. I captured 2 cities, then made peace and got 2 cities far from my land.

A suicide galley was sent west 600 AD and survived. I got contact with Hittites, Arabs, Sumeria and finally Ottomans. The Ottomans were the most advanced and they traded 890 gold for one of my techs. That allowed me to research at 100% rate. Still, I was far ahead of everyone and simply ran away.

At 820 AD, Navigation was discovered, and I traded maps with everyone and found that Korea had wine. They were the most backward civ, so I waged war against them with about 8 + 2 samurais. Golden age was triggered 830 AD, and I used that time to improve my cities and conquer Korea. No great leader appeared in this war.

Kyoto eventually became a science beast with Colossus, Copernicus Observatory and Newton's University. I could discover something new every 4 turn without losing gold for a long time because of this. Around 1200 AD Kyoto had something like 240 science/turn. Later with SETI and other improvements, here is what Kyoto looks like:

War against Russia

When gunpowder was discovered 980 AD, I noticed that I had no salpeter. A russian town was sitting next to one so I prepared for a big fight against Russia and finally declared war in 1370 AD. With Americans on my side, Russia was destroyed 1560 AD. America looked surprisingly strong with about 10 knights and 20 crusaders running through a city.
One great leader appeared in this war which I used to hurry a small wonder.

War against China

Around 1700 AD, I had tens of tanks and plenty of well developed cities that would re-enforce them and thought I would cut through China easily, so I waged war, simply because I wanted more land. China had riders and put up a fight, but the war ended in my favor 1754 AD. One great leader appeared, and I used it for an army of tanks.

War against America

With all those tanks hanging around, I wanted to take advantage of them. War was declared against America in 1772 AD It was messy at first, but eventually I ran over America with cavalry, tanks, artillery and bombers. America was destroyed 1808 AD. Four great leaders appeared in this war thanks to Heroic Epic and the double attack ability that tanks have. I used them to rush factories and to build another army. Three continents were now in Japanese control.

War against Hittites

America had not fallen, but it was close enough, so I sent about 10 tanks to Hittites and declared war 1796 AD. They had luxuries that I wanted (dyes and ivory) and they could only defend their cities with pikemen and longbowmen. They put up a big fight though. I lost maybe half of my tanks and had to send re-enforcement's. The Hittites were destroyed 1832 AD. One or two great leaders appeared in this war, but at this point it didn't matter much.

War against Sumeria

I had almost completed my collection of luxuries, and needed only gems and incense. Gems could be obtained from a colony (although not for long), but the incense required trading or grabbing it from Sumeria or Ottomans. Sumeria was a little backwards, but they had riflemen, but that was nothing against tanks and bombers so I declared war 1860 AD. After grabbing 3 of their cities, I had completed a Domination victory in 1864 AD.

But your Kyoto looks impressive, too! Well-developed city! (Especially if you compare it to my Kyoto: I disbanded it around 300 AD... :D) You are more a builder than a war-monger, right?
But then the question is: why did you go for domination? 1864 AD obviously is not a good date for domination (;)), but a diplomatic victory in around 1770 AD would have been pretty good on a map like this! Research was definitely your strong point in this game, and you need to use what you are good at. And from your science progress it looks like you could have completed Fission by 1770 AD?! With a bit of luck and if a couple of scientific tribes are still alive at that time, you could even have gotten Fission right in 1754 when entering the Modern Age!

Thanks for the welcome.
You're right, if I was going for a good result, then I should have had a plan. It was a good practice run at least. :)

Just finished a painful Histography Victory. I researched to Future Tech 11 just for the heck of it and made a complete mess of the game. I should have just ICS the entire thing but I got the bright idea of putting up aquas and markets and then hospitals with all that spare cash. Research was somewhat slow because I swapped all the cities to maximum happy citizens instead of specialists.

The AI were pushovers, of couse, but I didn't go after them with maximum force. I'm not sure if I should have gone guns blazing for the domination limit or maximized the land I had. I'll have to thing about that for next time - if there ever is a next time for this type of victory. I thought I liked MM, but this was rough. I'll do things very different next time!

Accidental dom in 1778ad, 1 tile over the limit. Would have hit 20k in 1808ad.

Launched in 1655, distracted by war in Middle Ages.

Just got it done in time.

Took Russia out first, follwed by China, America and left the Koreans with one city.
