First off, still on [civ3], my [c3c] should arrive today. :)

1. Does the game auto-sell any buildings/structures that become obsoleted? Its seemed to do so in some cases, but not in others. Either way, I never got a message saying as much.

2. Is there an auto or mass upgrade feature for units that you want to upgrade?

Thanks!

Select the unit you want to upgrade and press shift u and it will let you know how many of them you can upgrade and how much it will cost.

The units you upgrade have to be in a city with a barracks and you need to have the stategic resources.

Dont have a clue about question #1

what buildings go obsolite?

sorry i was being silly.

Granaries built before the pyramids can be sold off

If the pyramids is lost however.. they dissapear
this is the same for Tsun Zu's and the Temples

If you build them for real, they can be sold off. If given by a wonder they only last as long as the wonder is relevant.

Doesn't the Great Pyramid obsolete granaries?

Also, all cities over 7 don't need walls, though that's not tied to a specific advance.

The Pyramid places a grainery in every city on the same continent. You can sell the graineries you already built, but you will have to hunt for them manually.

Level 2 cities don't need walls, but you can still sell them.

So the answer is that no the Pyramids does not make granaries obsolete. It in fact provides a free in all contiential towns. I can't think of any structures going obsolete, but some techs make some wonders obsolete.

The ToA builts temples in those towns and once it goes obsolete you will no lnger have a temple there unless you hand built one.

Well, this is probably just semantics, but the creation of the Pyramids makes the granaries you've built useless (ie obsolete).

The point remains.

Its just too bad there's no way to mass sell things like this. *shrugs* Thanks, as always, for the great replies.

No, not obsolete, just free. you can just go and sell it manually.

I always wondered if you loose the culture as well. What if you build a temple before ToA expires? Does it preserve the culture?

I believe the hand build will stay after the ToA expires. The culture you acquired is not lost, you just won't have those phony temples, so you do no get any more culture.

And, sun Tzu build barracks, not temples.

What do you need in order to advance to a new age?

In the earliest age, is it construction? Republic?

And what does the sign mean on some of the different things you can research? Does it mean "dead-end research"? Examples where this sign exist: Amphibious Warfare.

Do you need to research the one without that "sign", in order to reach a new age?

Thanks

The ones with the sign are optional and not needed for next age. Every single government tech is optional.

You have to research all the rest in order to advance.

The point of your buildings not being sold is that you could lose that wonder, and therefore lose all the gifted buildings
