Hi, I'm new to Civs so I have a few questions to ask. I downloaded Civs 4 via Direct2Drive and was wondering if this is fully compatible with regular retail versions for online play and expansion. I'm trying to play online and have seen a few version mismatch, differing files msgs. Add to that I was thinking of buying an expansion pack from best buy possibly, would I be able to do this?

Also, I was wondering if either of the expansions would be worth purchasing as well, which again I'm mainly looking for some fun online if I go that route. So, online with the expansion can you connect with the original version still (and vice versa) basically how Company of Heroes is setup, or is the expansion almost like a stand-alone game?

Lastly, I'm new and I suck, lol. There any strat guides worth grabbing out there?

thanks

I don't know about the first question.

Definetaly get BTS if you want to play online. Few people play vanilla or warlords anymore.

Yes, strategy guides are very helpful. Go to the War Academy and read a few articles in the Introductory Courses section.

Well, I have it in reverse, I have a store bought original Civ 4 with Direct2Drive expansions, and they play together just fine. But really, it shouldn't matter it all. It is essentially the same thing, just one gets downloaded to your hard drive, and one comes on a CD, so there should be no compatibility issues. So yes, you can go buy your expansions from Best Buy.

As far as file mismatches, that's most likely because you're not full patched, or they are not fully patched, or even that there has been mods installed on either end of the game. If you continue to get errors, I'd just uninstall, re-install, and then re-patch.
