I have cracking intro music when starting a Beyond the Sword game. My brand new hardware is o.k. Is this annoying problem noticed by other gamers too or did I bought a bad copy?

I would suggest updating your motherboard / sound card drivers.

 Also the intro movie don't run and there are other strange things going on. My computer system is brand new and every driver is updated to the latest version. I am afraid they released BTS to early, it looks it is still in the beta phase. Its the unfinished game, not my system that create the trouble.

Does Vanilla Civ & warlords run OK for you? If so, have you upgraded to the absolute latest release of DirectX 9.0c (They release periodic updates whilst still calling it "directx 9.0c", so you may not have). That said, BTS does install a recent version.

yea i have this problem to. vanilla and warlords run perfect on my system with high settings, but BTS runs fairly laggy on all lowest settings, and the audio sometimes is smooth and others crackly/distorted/mild stutters.

This is from the patch 3.02 read me:

patch readme said:
If you are experiencing sound problems, including volume issues, missing audio channels (i.e., no sound comes through your center speaker channel), crashes, or any other audio issues, we recommend switching your sound driver to the default MILES Fast 2D Driver.
Unfortunately, I'm not really sure how to do this!

Yes, I don't have any problems with those two

My system, a "HP Pavilion PC m8060.nl" with 2046 RAM. I bought it 10 days ago so it is brand new and the system is running on Windows Vista Home Premium. Vista is using "directX 10" so far I know. May be is this a problem The procssor is a Intel Core 2 E4400 CPU. My soundcard is a "Realtek High Definition Audio" and I have Logitech loudspeakers. A NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE videocard is on board. I really don't know what the problem is. I am afraid BTS can not run (yet) as it have to on my system.

There is also a new problem now. When starting the program I get the message "Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select OK and restart application. The problem is that the correct DVD is inserted. This new problem came after I have tried to run the program under the Windows XP compatibility mode. Its a big mess now.

I have read this too, unfortunately this option is not available in the option/audio/audiospeakers menu. So the information in the readme file is for me useless. :(

I have the same cracking music problem as the OP. Also have the same audio card... "Realtek High Definition Audio" -the default oem integrated motherboard soundcard. Also have Vista.

And my rig is also brand new.

Anyone figured out what the problem is?

If you both have the same problem and same sound interface, Realtek probably has a problem with their drivers. Try using all the different settings under audio (mono, stereo, MILES, etc...) and see if there's any difference at all.

Try to turn anti-aliasing off. I have hp pavilion dv6158eu gf 7200 and conexant high definition audio and cracking sound also. When I turned anti-aliasing to 0 problem solved.
