Crash in Civ Beyond Earth After Selecting Seeding Options

2nd Edit: On a side note the patch for the Mac version of Beyond Earth only came out today so Angkor t. Wat couldn't have been playing the updated Mac version, yes he probably had the updated PC version but that wouldn't run in MacOS since the file systems are completely different, the only possibility is running emulation software for windows under MacOS but when you've setup on a dual boot system emulating anything is just pointless, just change OS and use Windows instead or vice versa.

It was definitely patched, at least the game play, when I posted. All the updated leader traits and colonist options were visible (for example artists gave 3 culture per city instead of 2 culture and 1 health). It was a few days behind the PC version but not that long.

I was going by your posting date and the official release date for the Mac patch, there was quite a few days between when you posted that and when the official patch was authorised and released to the public by Firaxis, if my logic is flawed in a way I am unable perceive then I'm sorry.

Any word on when a new patch will come out? Being stuck running the legacy version of the game kind of stinks. I would love to patch to the newer version for the gameplay improvments.

EDIT: So it looks like this was an intentional thing and not a coincidence. Guess I will be looking to upgrade my computer some time soon.

I am unable to start a game without crashing, and going back to the pre-patch legacy version the game runs fine. I am using a Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q875 which has a GeForce GTS 360M and I am running Windows 7 64-bit which comes with DirectX 11, so I do not think this can be classified as an out of date system. They NEED to fix this in a quick update to the patch, as the patch makes some pretty big changes to game play.

But, what people are saying is that those 300M series and earlier cards can run 11, but were designed pre-DirectX 11, so they aren't true "DirectX 11 cards". I agree that it is lame, but there it is.

I have to believe they could detect the cards and flip some switch to have the game configure itself like it was in the original release, or at the least give us some flag we can set so we can run and get all the other changes in the patch and future patches.

Thankfully I had some spare cash around to buy an affordable gaming video card. The EVGA GeForce GTX 750. I am very satisfied with it. Honestly did not expect to be able to run max settings on every game I own.. at least not at 63 fps.... and taking my old and slow HDD into account. But surprise! I actually have the illusion of having a good computer! lol I mean it's not bad, mid range... but this card really improved everything and for $120 I am satisfied.

All this being said I absolutely think it is dumb for DX 9 and 10 users to not be able to play... and probably will cut a big chunk out of future expansion profits if not changed.

If older video cards where supported by the original release, they should NOT be broken by the patch. Many users ONLY have laptops, and they have NO choice about driver levels or to upgrade their video cards.

The problem is the cards listed in their minimum specs are cards that don't fully support DirectX 11. As a result you have a number of people buying the game based upon a misleading if not outright wrong game specifications. Add to that, it seems like there's no reason in principle that they couldn't support DirectX 9/10 given it's built from the same engine as Civ 5.

...and none ATI card within the same range (only supporting up to DX10.1) have this issue. Its only Nvidia cards, and our cards has no new drivers to install...

The new patch that just came out today fixes it for everyone with old cards that worked before. :)

Rejoice!

I never got the full game nor the demo to get past the screen after the Green Arrow. It shows a map with the red outline, but it crashes before any thing on the UI is populated but after the advisor box in the upper right corner. Now I am stuck just with the demo to work with. Is there any hope for my laptop to play this game?

Solved the issue in my case:

I thought it was turned off, but turning off 3D in the Nvidia Control panel solved my issue. Of course I wish I had figured that out during the free weekend.

Just thought i should mention as this thread helped sort my crash out...

I'm running a 5Ghz Octa Core processor along with 32gb RAM and a GTX 960.

Similar to the original post, i was crashing after the intro, i got to the point (just after I first installed this game btw) where the advisor asked me what level he should be run at.

As soon as he was gone i spiked to 100% and the game crashed...

Which obviously i wasn't happy about, maxing a 5ghz octa core? and crashing with a GTX 960.

However after reading the thread i looked and my stereoscopic, it was on, turned it off, its working fine now...

However i would appreciate a patch so that i don't have to turn it off, i like playing 3D games and will often forget to turn it off
