Crash in Civ Beyond Earth After Selecting Seeding Options

I played your save file for 20 turns with no crash. I noticed that this game has a duel-size map. I thought that you could play on such maps without a crash. Does this game crash for you?

Yes, it will occasionally crash when I hit "next turn" (I'd say every 20-50 turns). The main problem, obviously, is that I can't play anything larger than duel-sized maps.

Did you try killing as many processes as possible before starting BE like I suggested earlier, I do have 35 years experience with computers and wouldn't suggest it if it didn't have a chance of working. Don't kill explorer.exe or any steam stuff, but strip everything else down as much as possible, you can always reset if you kill something vital.

Let me try that real quick.

Well, the problem appears to lie with your system. I suggest running hardware diagnostics. Some systems have built-in diagnostics that can be accessed by pressing a designated key upon startup. The manufacturer also might have some diag programs available on their website. If none of that helps, you should at least test your RAM for errors. That's the most likely source of a problem. Memtest86+ is a popular program for doing so.

This didn't work, HOWEVER, I did notice something very interesting in the Resource Monitor concurrent with the crash of the game. CPU usage jumped up to 100% every time it crashed.

It does not do this while playing any other game, either. I am playing games right now that are on a much higher end than Civ BE (Arma 3 for example) and the CPU usage is around 30%.

Darkskies made an excellent suggestion. You could try another way to implement it as follows: Hit the Windows key + R. Type msconfig and hit OK. In the resulting System Configuration menu, select Diagnostic startup and select OK. This should start your system with a minimal set of of devices and services. Does that help?

I rebooted into diagnostic mode and the game still spiked to 100% CPU use during loading and crashed on the loading screen for the match. I tested to see if other recently-released games (Alien: Isolation and Shadows of Mordor, which are both heavier on resource usage than Civ: BE) had any such issues, and they both work perfectly with no crashes. Is it possible this could be an issue with Civ itself?

CPU usage stays at 20-30% consistently when loading into Duel-sized maps, whereas the other maps cause it to spike to 100% and crash.

I loaded a saved game with a massive map. CPU spiked to 100% briefly while loading, but stabilized at around 16%.

We'll take a look at the crash dump and see if it shows us anything. Thanks for posting, and so sorry you're having issues.

Thanks for your reply, it means a lot. I'm a huge Civ fan, as I'm sure many others are. I'd love to get this all fixed and see if I can get into some epic marathons as ARC.

I forgot is this a laptop? If so do you have a power savings plan in operation that throttles the cpu? It's possible to do this even when running off AC though usually it's only set to do so when running on batteries of course, but worth checking all the same.

This is on a desktop

Stupid question, do you have "stereoscopic 3D" enabled in the Nvidia Control Panel? My game crashes the same way when enabled, may Montezumas Curse be upon Firaxis!

It was disabled, but I re-enabled it and disabled it again for good measure; no luck.
