Hello CIV fanatics. I'm new to CIV and I can't find a solution for this, I'm okay at searching usually but this time my Google-Fu is letting me down. I need a little help with the creation of caravans, in particular how to create lots of them.

In this screenshot it shows what my limit is, 3/3 routes.

And when I try to construct more caravans or purchase them I get this message. "you cannot construct a trade unit because you are at your trade unit limit."

3 out of my 4 cities have both a Bazaar and a Caravansary, and I have Trading Posts in all of them. What should I do to allow more caravans to be built?

Thanks!

Research appropriate tech assuming that you have researched Engineering already, Compass or Banking is the ones you get an additional trade route slot. Look in tech tree for later techs which give more slots. You could/can get aditiional slots for building the Colossus and Petra. You should especially build Petra...

The number of trade routes are governed by 2(.5) quantities:

1) Your place in the tech tree. The primary way of gaining more trade routes is researching technologies that give you more. These are all listed in the relevant technology.

2) Certain wonders. Both the Colossus and Petra give you an extra trade route (and also a Ship/Caravan for it). There may be others, but those are the two main ones early game.

3) Venice doubles the number of trade routes you can have. This is done by (apparently) calculating the number you are allowed from 1) and 2) above, and then multiplying by 2.

The Bazaar and Caravansary (and Harbor and a few other buildings) directly enhance the amount of money your trade routes make, making them more lucrative, but they will not give you more trade routes.

I seee, that makes sense. And there I was dreaming of having 10+ Caravans and swimming in gold.

Thank you both for the quick response.
