Creating Scenerios with Chronicles

I've been trying to create some pretty simple scenerios with my Civ2 game that came with the Chronicles pack. However, when I try to load it, it crashes just like several of the existing scenerios. Is there a way to create so it won't crash or am I better off getting Civ 2 gold to create scenerios?

Thanks and take care,

Jay

Hey Kessy,

Didn't MGE ship with Chronicles? I don't have Chronicles (that's why I'm asking), but I could help you more if I knew everything you were trying to do. Are saying that you are unable to open the .scn file and it crashes when you try or are you saying the scenario starts and then crashes or crashes somewhere in between.

Are you using the editor included in Civ2 to make the scenario? or one of the other fine programs you find here at civfanatics or elsewhere on the web.

If you would be kind enough to start the game, go to the pull down menu, click game, then click game options and read the title bar, it should say "Civilization II <version number> <date>"

That could tell a lot. If it is MGE it will say "Civilization II 5.2.5f Multiplayer 16-November-98" or something quite similar.

Some possible causes of scenario crashes include Title.gif (size/colors), scenario text file is too large, labels.txt file error, menu.txt file error, rules.txt file error, game.txt file error, and so forth.

Is there an error box that comes up citing an error with smednet.dll or similar. Or is there an error box saying there is an address error or allocation error.:crazyeye:

This is just off the top of my head--your error could be something simple as a scratch on the cd, but I thought I'd mention these things.

Good luck!

I didn't use any actual scnerio editor. I just created a new game on a small world with 7 civs. I then used the cheat to give all civs all technologies and one civ the M Project (my plan was to run a nuclear war scenerio). I then chose the option, "Save as Scenerio."

When I went to reload it, it allows me to chose my civ, but then it crashes just as the game begins. This had happened with several scenerios in the game (WWII was the only one I could get to work).

And yes, the version with the game is MPG. However, I read that other people had trouble with Chronicles, so I wondered if that Chronicles version of MPG had a bug in it or something.

Thanks and Take care,

Jay

Hey Kessy,

Post the scenrario here for others to download and let's see if we can get an answer.

Thanks!

I think I read in other threads here that the scenario crashing had to do with the long file path...

Try saving your scenarios (or re-installing MGE in a different location altogether if that's possible) in another folder with a shorter file path (and preferably without spaces in it).

I can't find it to upload, but I'll try moving all the files somewhere else.

Thanks,

Jay

@Mercator
Bingo! I completely forgot about that and I had that happen to me the other day...where is my mind!

@Kessey
Let us know if it works :)

Hey Kessey?

Did you get the scenario to work? And if you are working on a NEW nuclear war scenario...um...were you gonna share it? ;)

Just thought I'd ask...

:)

Cheers!

Sorry, I've been out of it for a while thanks to work and some tropical storms (Hannah's next, great!).

I still haven't gotten the nuclear war scenerio to work. I was playing around with some new techs and units though. Ritual Sacrifice to allow Spirit Missiles (dark gae version of cruise missiles) and Rage which allows Berserkers.

My plan is to get the Nuclear War scenerio finished, then work on a Native American scenerio, basically a what-if scnerio where Europians nevered settled in the Americas. the Mayans, Aztecs, etc. would be free to develop on their own.

Unfortunately, I still haven't gotten the scenerios to work, but when I do, I'll be happy to share them. A warning though, I'm still pretty new to these so even if they work, they might seem laughingly basic compared to some people's work.

Take care,

Jay

Hey,

Don't worry about making the greatest scenario ever made...just concentrate on making the scenario you want to make. Some of the best stuff I've ever seen came from new authors...

I like making scenarios...probably as much as playing them...

Cheers!
