Ok, FAQ version 1.0 has been forwarded to Dianthus for posting.

If you would like a preview, send me a PM.

Available formats will be:
1- Excel
2- OpenOffice, for those who don't want to buy MsOffice.

Text file format has been sent off, but don't think it is usable. The FAQ makes extensive use of short questions and hyperlinks to answers inside the same workbook. Excel can't export that without making a ton of file. Lotus exports as all one file, but it is no where as easy to read as the other formats.

Let us know how we can improve the FAQ's.

Version 1.02 of the CRpSuite FAQ is now available on my website. Thanks to planetfall for all of the hard work :goodjob:.

If you got any comments/suggestion, please post them in this thread.

@planetfall: You mentioned in another thread (you probably know which one) that you would post something about moving install from standard install on XP to shared directory for all users. Exactly how do you do this?

Viper275,

Exactly is spelled out in FAQ "start_1" installing for the first time.

Please download FAQ and see if you can follow my directions. If I am confusing, educate me.

FAQ is in link in sig.

Well, it has happened. We now have a FAQ for CRpSuites. Click on signature to download the FAQ.

As of today the survey results were:

11 - text file
03 - spreadsheet file
08 - web page.

We decided not to use a straight text file as export programs, both Xcel and Lotus, created files that wasted players time navigating thru the file to find the FAQ you are looking for.

We have released Excel spreadsheet file and mirror of this FAQ file in StarOffice/OpenOffice should be posted next week. Again the reasons for using a spreadsheet FAQ are:

1. tab based organization of FAQ's by utility, not all players use all utilities.
2. hyperlinking within the sheets from the short list of the Questions to the Answers and a hyperlink to return to your previous FAQ list
3. ability to freeze columns titles so as you are scrolling down thru the FAQ and if you get interrupted by RL, when you return you can see where you where without scrolling.

If we have sufficient interest in the FAQ guide and demand for a web interface, we will investigate created a web FAQ guide.

Let us know what we can do to improve the FAQ's, without feedback nothing else will happen.

Enjoy.

Here's a question from someone who is totally technically challenged. I haven't previously downloaded CrpSuite, but I DID read all 832 posts in the thread (as of tonight) so I wouldn't miss anything. Looks like it does everything but make coffee for me. ;)

I downloaded the FAQ file. I created the file c:\tmp\downloads. BUT...I know I read something about extracting an .ini file before installing if I want to be able to do patches later, rather than complete reinstallations.

What is an .ini file, how do I extract it from the zip file, do I do this BEFORE unzipping the file, and where do I install it? I don't see anything about that under "Installing First Time". I haven't downloaded the actual program yet, and I really don't want to mess it up.

Thank you for your help and your patience. :)

We have a do not compete policy with Brazilan coffee growers ;)

1st - thanks for your question and feedback
2nd - can't mess up, the uninstall works very well
3rd - if you do many patches, you run increased risk of corruption and except for the first couple patches you don't save disk space. It is faster to simply do a complete uninstall with Windows remove programs and then install then to waste time with patching.
4th - don't know of anything you need to do to ini files. The CRpSuite info is saved in the registry. The ini file is the method windows 98 used to use to store application data. The problem with this was it was easy to have users either accidently remove a necessary file or set invalid settings. The ini method is still supported in new windows but will probably be retired at some point. If you want to be paranoid, you can backup your ini files. You'ld have to do a search for files including hidden that end with .ini.

Thanks, planetfall!!!

BTW, I'm glad Dianthus isn't completing with the Brazilian coffee growers, because I have a strong feeling they'd LOSE!!!
