Why can't I load and fire CM's from my AEGIS cruisers, nuke subs, battleships, carriers and bombers like in the real world ? And why can they not perform precision strikes ?

Nobody's been building battleships for decades, and the cruise missile is a factor in that developement.

A modern AEGIS cruiser can deal with a battleship (in the traditional version, with many huge calibered guns) without much trouble due to it's missiles that outrange the guns, and are immensely more precise...

Can this be fixed in the editor, and if so, will the AI take advantage of the new opportunities ?

Well, in the modern age, let's take the USS New Jersey, in its last commissioned state, vs the Chosin, a VLS CG-51 (AEGIS) cruiser.

Now, if you consider them one-on-one, with no supporting ships, then it's possible, but not certain, that the Tomahawks and Harpoons aboard the Chosin could do fatal damage to the well-armored battleship. The topsides might be wrecked, but the turrets might still be very much operative, along with the engines.....

Now, the New Jersey, OTOH, has Tomahawks/Harpoons of her own. But, it's very likely that the Chosin could shoot most of those down, maybe even all of them. But, if one of those Tomahawks hits (1000 lb warhead) the Chosin, it's probably a dead cruiser. Harpoons, with 325 lb blast/frag warheads (IIRC), would be bad enough.

If you get within 50 miles, and IIRC, the BB can shoot subcaliber rocket-assisted projectiles at 50 miles. The cruiser, again, won't take much of that. You get within 20 miles, and the Aegis cruiser is pretty much dead if the main battery still works on the New Jersey. One, maybe two, 16-inch shells hit the Chosin, and it's gone.

My main point is, AEGIS vs Battleship is not as clearcut as you might think....

one of my favorite changes is to create an AEGIS Battlecruiser. I dont see why a BB couldnt be designed to handle the armament of a modern warship. I'm not sure what all the retrofits on the Iowa-BBs were in the late 80s, but surely their anti-missile defenses were upgraded. That being said, assume that the world were plunged into another full scale non-nuke war. Wouldnt you like to have some AEGIS-class BBs on your side?

Cruise missiles compared to the same unit on Civ2 are a waste of space. They appear to do no more damage then an artillary piece.
You used to be able to degfend your coast my launching missiles at packed transports. This has little effect now.
I suppose with lethal bombardment reinstated they weill be a bit better, but you need to still use the editor to incorporate this.

Right now, cruise missles are pretty much useless in Civ III. It really ticks me off that you can't load them onto AEGIS cruisers or anything. You should be allowed to do that. Plus, they should make cruise missles destroy multiple things in cities and be fatal to any unit it hits.

mmmm maybe the problem with Cruise Missilies is that they are kind of "one use artillery"... they sholud have A LOT more range. For example what about this?

Operational range:5
RoF: 4
Attack: 24

And yes, higher attack is needed because Mech Infantry just laughs a lot when you fire them with one of this. In this way cruise missiles would be far more useful, not unbalanced.
