I don't post too often but loved this feature in Civ III. I understand it's a game but as a history teacher I would much prefer to be linked closer culturally on random maps, ie Arabia near Persia, Germany near Austria, Rome near Greece etc. I almost entirely play real world maps due to the lack of this feature. Seems extremely simple to implement. Thoughts?

I think it would be good to have as an option in advance setup. Though not on default games, a bit of randomness is good

Agreed, but it most definitely needs to be an option in advanced setup. I would think even a patch could add this.

Hi Geebo.

I totally agree on this issue with you. I missed this future so much since Civ III.
I am not often at site any more too, (since, it's completely taken over by bunch of ignorant posters, probably very young or immature, anyway, that just whine and trash the game. Or to put it more fairly, new generation of PC game players that are completely different opinionated than me, at least) and one of the reasons I logged in is just to give you support for this.

I have to play only Pangaea for this reason (because I can at least pick civs that are somehow connected historically or/and geographically one to each other) and continents I do not play anymore (since Civ III) at all, because of this (since I would prefer to have FE on one continent Inca, Maya and Aztecs and on the other Spain, England and France but this is not possible to accomplish, so I gave up on Continent Style map entirely).

I think, also, it is not hard to implement. So developer, please give us this option in Civiliyation V game, no need to wait for future (if there will be any) civs. Thank you.

Yea, I do not post much myself but I remain browsing for years! Thanks for the reply.I just really don't get why the staff cannot stratify at least part of their fan base by adding culturally linked starting locations.

Good idea on Pangaea I will have to try that, as of now 90% of time I play TSL mod/maps.

It truly bothers me to see Washington next to Wu Zetian, and so on. All it would be is some sort of value in the XML or, just link real culturally groups together, which might not be the easiest, but it isn't rocket science. European(Mainly Germanic-Nordic), Mediterranean( Southern European/Mediterranean), Middle Eastern/North African, West African or just Sub-Sahara African, East Asian, and Native American. Those could be the six cultural groups, furthermore they can use these not only to link locations in advanced setup but also add city design referring to their culture(Which is currently somewhat implemented already) But some culture groups need a design upgrade, including ethnic diversity units.

Ohh.. I really really hope for this feature.. it was my favorite mod in Civ IV and it just makes the world feel more realistic.. So far I haven't seen the feature yet in the Mod section here so I really hope this either gets modded in (like Civ IV) or gets implanted by the devs. (like Civ III)

I'm currently trying a brute force approach on that (yes, I'm not a creative programmer...), if it works I may release a mod *soon*.

OMG wow... I finnaly know what will be the first I'm gonna download when I've finnaly gotten Civ V!
