Would it be possible to crash an AI's spaceship by culture flipping its capital after it's launched the spaceship?

It is possible actually (to win duel conquest with always peace option as long as AI isn't CRE, don't build any wonder and don't pick up early religion 
I did it once vs Toku, when was playing Zara) but just early when tiles have low number of (plot? that was the name?) culture on them. But late game with everything between and milleniums long ownership etc... - unless there is something that can be done with culture spread through espionage?
Can give ICBM some very cultural nick name if want to use culture to crash spaceship

My suspicion is that it's possible since you can flip a civ out of existence completely. And of course it doesn't have to be the original capital...
