Culture Flipping: Is it even in the game anymore?

kochman, spread culture is always 5% of the city culture. It simply takes more EP. Enough spies can convert influential culture cities, just as fine, you still need the culture pressure to revolt them properly, though.

Are you sure about that? I have had to send probably close to 20 spies to a city that I was bordering... it was an established city... that is why I came to that conclusion.
I could be wrong of course...

I have seen it do 5% a pop, but in this case, it wasn't doing it anywhere near as quickly.

Just playing my first game of BtS and this is one of the things I really noticed. I had one of my cities pounding an enemy city with culture for ages (about 400 a turn), sent in about 30 culture spies as well. Just wouldn't budge! When my city went Legendary it eventually surrounded the enemy city, but still it wouldn't flip. Thing is, they had about 25 units in there, which I think helps defend against this sort of thing. This was only on Chieftain, though, so lord knows what it's like higher up.

True, but you can now send in spies to influence the culture...

Which is almost a pointless thing to do. The amount of culture you can influence with a Spy is so miniscule that the mission is pretty much a waste of time.

If the cities are newer, like the ones he just put at your borders... they can be transferred over relatively easily... free city for less than 10 influence spreads is a damn good deal... no diplomatic hit (unless you get caught with the spy of course, but it is still less than war would be).

For me, this is an almost constant process... I choose a city I want, and spy influence it until it is mine... repeat process again and again...

Far from pointless... since it is pretty much free other than the production of the spy...

Absolutely sure, and it's 5% of all culture (incl. your own). The last game I used the same tactic (spent like 1k2 EP) to convert the last 2 cities on a vassal (was short less than 1% of domination threshold). W/ all the discounts, it can be less than 0.6EP/culture. Easy as heck, just produce the spies and get it going.
You can even see how the tiles disappear, bloody cruel.

I havent been online in a while, so i wasnt able to read the various replies i got. Thank you all very much, it has helped me loads.
