Cumulative Football Quiz

"I don't know the answer duke, what could it possibly be?"
-Well I don't know either, but you could just type Staf van der Buys into a search engine and see what it throws up.
"Wow! Great idea. I might just do that and then come back and try to bamboozle the duke and willem with another footie-related question."
-Your destiny commands you to. Good luck and may the force be with you.

Translated into English by BabelFish: *bump* :)

I tried yesterday and today again in 2 or 3 different search engines and the result was null. (You confirm that he exists, right?)

Apparently he was a Belgian footballer who scored a hat-trick of own goals in a single match. What a record! Do you think he got to take the ball home afterwards? Does anyone else want to post another question?

PS - willem, Jari Litmanen was absolutely incredible last night! Do you look out for Ajax old boys? I don't like the options for your football teams poll though - you've only picked the champions of each league. There are many many far more popular teams in each country, but I suppose you could only have 10 options. But what about FC Twente or Heerenveen fans? Ajax aren't the only team in Holland.

I agree. I wanted to put in 5 clubs per country, but the poll system won't let me.......:( Especially the English fans want to choose another team then Man Utd. I don't like them either. That's why I made a 'other' option in it....

And yes I look out for Ajax old boys, it's pretty easy, most of them play(ed) for Barcelona, though they are moving to English clubs now. I'm most interested in the dutch old-Ajax guys (v.d.Sar, Reiziger, Bogarde, R. de Boer, F. de Boer, etc.): the only non-Dutch old-Ajax players I really care about are Jari Litmanen and Nwanko Kanu. Finidi is great too.
You must understand that in the 7 years Jari Litmanen played for Ajax, he became a key-player. He was the big man around, and all Ajax-fans hope he'll come back some day.......He's still a great and imense popular player around here, you could see that when Ajax played against Liverpool, just before the season started..... (P.S., we won 3-1 of Liverpool!!!)

I'll see if there's still some interest in this dead topic.

We all know Lothar Matthäus of Germany holds the record for most international matches. My question is

Who had the record before him?

We might all know that, but Hossam Hassan actually holds the world record number of appearances, and since he's only 34, the Egyptian international's record looks like growing a lot more. He used to play for PAOK Salonika and Neuchatel Xamax, but now plies his trade with Al Ahly in Cairo.

However, the person who held the world record before Matthäus was the incredibly irritating Swedish goalie Thomas Ravelli. Was that what you wanted?

Glimt is rubbish, that's why:).

Whoooooops, sorry. Anyway, according to my sources Claudio Suarez are the world record holder. See for yourself here. Go to miscellanous, and international appearances and goals (but only if you're interested, mind).

Hey, Glimt isn't rubbish :).

Next question is your.

Hmm. Strange. According to that source, you're right. But according to my head and all the sport programs, we are right.

Sorry, but Glimt is isn't great. They're not rubbish either but......

That's the trouble with countries like Egypt - they often don't keep proper records for their sports teams. The English cricket team go on tour to Pakistan and play friendlies, and some of their under 19 players look suspiciously old and have no papers to prove their age. But the players are professionals and should be able to cope with things like this. I admit that your source looks reliable, but I haven't yet bothered to check any more. I can't be bothered to think up another question and I'm going home from work in about 5 minutes so willem can post another question. I know he's online now. :D

Mauricio Pellegrino

Since I cannot be bothered to research anything:
What is the name of the team that can second in the Conference (English division below Division 3) last year?

(Assuming I was right)

You are correct about Yeovil...They shold have won the league but they lost their manager half way through the season...So now its your turn for a question ;)

Grantham Gingerbreads :) once played Forest's reserves and lost 7-0. We have had some great managers though, Martin O'Neill once maaged or played for Grantham.

Anyway Newcastele are crap! Man UTD rule! :king:
