Curser flashes or disapears while playing game

I bought the game and installed it. My PC exceeds the recomended settings for the game, but when I started the game, the Curser flashed on and off and I could barely see where it was. Since I've never played Civ before, I clicked to play the tutorial. I had to finally give up, because the curser would just disapear from the screen and I would have to move the curser around until the button I wanted to press would light up, telling me that the curser was over it. I restarted and went to advanced, and clicked to update, but the game said I had the current version. Am I doing something wrong, or am I missing something?
