Hi,

What is the difference between Standard and Balanced resources in making a custom game with land islands or continents?

Thank you,
Rosy

To add to AmazonQueen, I belive theres no marble on the map with Balanaced Resources tick, unless they changed that with BTS?

I've seen marble and stone on balanced resources maps but they aren't amongst the ones that every civ gets. Nor is ivory which is hard on the Khmers.

I have seen marble and stone as well on balanced resources. I started out with copper, corn, clam and fish all within four plots. Took Tokugawa's capital, and he only had corn and clam. Are either of those considered 'strategic" resources. Also, on a custom game, continents map, do you always start on the coast? This is horrible for maintenance.

I think strategic resources are those used for military units, like copper, iron, coal, oil, and horses. Not sure about uranium, but probably is. Another way of thinking about this is that the strategic resources are those that the AI values more highly (they'll always give you wheat for sheep, but never Iron for sheep, for example).

I haven't actually tried the balanced resources start, and I think I will, sounds fun. I assume it's available on Warlords because this is Warlords forum? I'm on a Mac, so BTS not available yet.

Strategic resources are all the resources that provide a +1 hammer bonus to the plot they are on.

Copper
Iron
Aluminum
Horse
Oil
Uranium
Marble
Stone
Coal

The Balanced setting is available with all Civ4 versions.

Jerrymander is correct, but not all map scripts have the option enabled. Even some of the official map scripts lack the option.
