I have followed the tutorial "Six steps to importing Models" in the tutorial index thread and as soon as I get to the turn in the game where my custom model will be built the game just quits to my desktop. I can see my model in the build window in the city view so i'm getting closer to getting this to work I think. My model is just a cube that I made in Max. It has no animations and I think that may be my problem because I copied from the Settler unit in the XML files and that unit has animations. Maybe I'm not using the right settings when I export? In the meantime i'm going to try to replace a building with my model so theres no animation to worry about...if I can find all of the right XML files to modify...:crazyeye: Man, and I thought getting models into Warcraft III was hard! Please help, i've been struggling with this for awhile with no luck.

I have similar problem. I trying to put in a new rifleman. I click on the icon in the city screen and it crashs to desktop. The model can seen on the left in the build que.

This type of crash is almost always due to a missing/incorrect path to a button or other art file. Manually, you can recheck the paths you added in your XML files to make sure there is no typo. Also you can use the "civchecker" program I wrote which will find missing paths. See the download database.

Sadly, in 3.17 Firaxis seems to have done a poor job of cleaning up their own missing references, there are almost 90 missing references within BTS 3.17 with no mods applied. That makes it a little more challenging to quickly find which problems may be due to your mod. When I have a chance I will update civchecker to ignore these "known issues".
