I know this info exists somewhere, but I've been unsuccessful tracking it down. I also suspect I already know or can figure out most of what I need, but would like advice anyway. I want to create a totally custom civ to play in regular Civ2 games (not a scenario). I know about editing the cities.txt to add city names, but should I know anything about "replacing" a civ in the cities.txt? Should I leave it's heading to the original civ name or rename with my new civ's name? How do I get the custom civ to show up in the list to choose from at the start? I think I can figure out all the custom titles and etc., but any advice or shortcuts or warnings there would be appreciated as well.

TIA, Leowind

Its fairly straight forward.A quick examinaition of the rules.txt will show you what you need to do.
Yes you must replace an existing civ, cities, leader, titles etc with your custom civ.So yes you will be renamimg or overwriting.

Always make a backup copy of any txts you change

You do not have to overwrite anything in either the rules.txt or city.txt You do need to add though. For example lets say you are adding the Irish, in the city.txt before the @EXTRA cities add a space and type in @IRISH
city A
city B
city C
etc
@STOP
You need an empty line above @IRISH and below @STOP.
Now in the rules.txt scroll down to the @LEADERS part and choose which civ you wish to replace, lets say the Sioux. Now highlight the whole line of the sioux right click and cut. Now add an empty space below the extra civ Incas and paste the Sioux there (in case you change your mind later). Go back to the space where the Sioux used to be and add your civ:
Male Leader, Female Leader, 0, 7, 3, Irish, Irish, 0, -1, 0
What each of those number represents is shown above the @LEADERS part of the rules.txt
And that is all for today's lesson ;)

how does one activate the incas and the arabs? i wanna know how...

Just a follow up for anyone who cares. Edited cities.txt and rules.text and started a game. Everything seems to be in order. went back to the scenario I was finishing up, and now have "Caesar George Bush" defeating the Iraqis in the Persian Gulf War because the Americans are the tribe I replaced  so the titles are messed up. (yes I know I could replace the original rules.txt, but the scenario is almost completed and then I'll be back to the game I started, so why mess with it)

Caesar George Bush sounds about right to me ;)

hehehe....to be fair I'd much rather live next door to Bush than Sadam

Well you would follow my instructions above but just move either the Arabs or Incas to which ever tribe you wanted to replace.
