Hello,

Spent bout 6 hrs lookin over forum rechecking drivers and so forth. Heres the problem everytime I attempt to start civ 4 from the desktop or the drive itself I get this error..

"The application or DLL C:\documents and settings\master\desktop\d2d\d3dx9_26.dll is not a valid window image. please check against your installation diskette"

Noone at IGN has been help yet, Hope some of the pros here can give me some info on to solving my lack of civ 4 at this moment.

That's what i've done to resolve same problem:

Open DirectX9 folder on your Civ4 CD. There are two cab files here:
"Jun2005_d3dx9_26_x64.cab" and "Jun2005_d3dx9_26_x86.cab"
You can open these files with winrar, for example. Both of them contains
"d3dx9_26.dll" file, but if you have WinXP you'll need "d3dx9_26.dll" from
"Jun2005_d3dx9_26_x64.cab" file, and if you have Win2K - from "Jun2005_d3dx9_26_x86.cab" file. Extract file you need to \WINNT\System32\. Run the game again. It must work after that.
