Damn barbarians!!

Funny, I have my Barbarians altered to heal up to 50 HP per turn inside their camps (makes it necessary to use three units minimum to wipe out a camp) and each barbarian has now a 30% greater combat rating as well. Makes them capable of winning against units that are sent out alone.

I also have the number of civilizations in the game increased by 30% as well though, so that leaves less open space for the barbarians early game. To compensate, I've increased the the number of barbarians camps.

Of course I also play on the "raging" setting.

Maybe I missed something in this thread but what about Barbarian Hordes? I'm playing a prince game as China and now in the Medieval Era own the continent save for one CS that is besieged by a horde; I have assisted him in wiping out said horde completely only to have it horde re-spawn on the next turn within the CS's borders. This has happened twice now. There are no camps on the continent. I have a galleas in the port as well. Where do they come from?

During the event, a group of barbarians will spawn every X turns until the event timer is over (you can check how many turns are left by hovering over the icon by the city-state portrait).

The horde(s) you wiped was(were) only the first part of the assault, I imagine. :P

I think barbs are very balanced right nao. I found them tough at first as well, but changing some values made them relatively easy.

What I did was changing barbarian xp to unlimited and disabling gold steal and healing in camps. IMHO barbs should be an easy XP source as they were intended. Firaxis never wanted them to be an overwhelming threat but just a distraction and early combat.

I don't think I'm alone in supposing that what Firaxis wants has little to do with the way the Community Patch Project has evolved. I mean, they believe they have a fantastic A.I. in Civ V

There were shortcomings that started to come out, especially when you’re talking about a game with a million-plus fans. The great thing about our publisher is that they let us continue to improve the game well after release, through the expansions, through multiple balance patches and adding additional content. That’s one thing [Civilization V designer] Ed Beach really focused on in the core Civilization V engine: getting the A.I. up to where it could competently play the game and thrill players.

And I think in Brave New World [the final Civilization V expansion], when we finally closed out the series, the A.I. was in an amazing place. Ed took it a very great distance to where we all thought it was a really good experience.

This is not to say that your opinion is wrong. I'm pointing out that your justification of playing it the way Firaxis intended doesn't hold much water in these parts.

It's OK, I just think that Firaxis' intentions fit me quite well, as I want my modded game to be as vanilla as possible, thou still overhauled.
