Dark Reign on Windows XP

Several years ago i bought the old Windows 95 game Dark reign + expansion. Now, some years later I want to play that old thing again. The problem is: It won'T work .

Here is what happens: Installation works quite well. (some complains about the lack of direct x3 ) Now I start the game. All fine. But once I'm in the menu, there is a text at the top saying: Please insert Dark Reign Cd.
Obviously the cd is inserted.

Any ideas? I already set darkreign.exe to be kompatible with windows 95.

If you don't have DirectX3 that's sad. There's like version 9 now.

First I would look for a darkreign patch. Even a patch for win98 compatibility would help.

Second I would look for a no-cd crack if you can find one.

Third I would look to see if there are any other executables you can find that need to be set to compatibility mode.

Btw: Are no-cd cracks illegal if you own the cd?

Microsoft has a free download of an Applications Compatibility Tool-kit, and that might work for you. I've gotten some other old programs to run using it.
