DBear01--Put Away Your Swords

You can shuffle me in now or just leave me in my previous slot.

I think we should go commie. We have lots of land available to put cities and build more culture. Putting away our swords means we don't start any wars, but we can definitely finish 'em if need be. If Abu gets out o' line, whack 'im.

I started the set, almost got to the first turn and RL reared it's ugly head. I'm not going to be able to play until Friday. The next set is not going to be quick. I was still in preflight after 40 minutes, trying to MM the unit production and positioning. I hadn't even started on a strategic plan.

BTW - here are my notes:

This next set probably needs at least 4-6 hours to really get things set up.

MM Babylon to 20spt. Allows cavalry in 4 turns without waste. Need to think on what to do with it when it grows (haven't had Shake's in a long time)

Wake the 2 workers clearing damage and use them to improve Uruk to max shields. Change Uruk to palace as prebuild for factory or US.

No need to switch to commie soon. Wait for WW to get out of control.

Just as a project, switch Shurupakk to Magellan's after CH. Don't think we'll win, but gets us a nice prebuild for a factory.

Upgrade horses to cav where possible.

Need to concentrate the stone throwers and upgrade. As demo, we want quality units.

Need 1 or 2 2-turn worker farms to get the railnet up asap. Need to build cav and cannon for the upcoming Abu wars.

The above took 40+ minutes, but I'm an idiot... :)

Off the top of my pointed head, Otto is a future target after Abu. Completely agree we need to monopolize our continent.

Insert favorite cuss words here, this is gonna be fun, wish I had the time before friday. If you can wait that long, I'll devote lots of time to this.

We're in good shape, just need to tweak it a bit.

AK, i dont mind if Igor cant play for a while. the stress must be awesome, all those loose parts floating around.

JB, want it?

i humbly suggest we wait a bit. AK deserves a chance to whack abu a bit.

I'm in the middle of SGoTM6. Will not be able to put time towards this for a few days.

lurker's comment:

Are you making a run at 100K? If so here are some sugestions:

Get a solid set of six core cities as shield productive as possible and crank out the strongest military you can. Use the next layer towns to rush settlers to fill in gaps in the territory to the west and build temples and libraries post haste. Turn down research unless you need a technology to crush a foe. Use the cash to rush the next level of cultural buildings (cathedrals and universities) Reorganize the army to go after everybody left on your continent. (You need lots of towns and lots of culture everywhere to do 100K. Pack them in tight outside the first two productive centers.)

In short the Admiral's plan is sound as far as it goes.

You can count me out cause I'm off to an Internet-deprived place for the next 4 days. I'll report in next Monday. So SW and A-K, its up to you guys now.

@brother Bede: glad to see you in this thread! You figure we get to 100K before the Panzers arrive? (We're at 17000 culture right now and just were the first to hit the IA, with the Germans on our heels)

I'm done w/ SGoTM6 for probably the next few weeks so I can take this now if needed.

Thanks, JB. I was up in 2 other games, so I couldn't get to this one.

Started last night and made it through turn 0.

Highlights:
I spent most of our gold reserves on horse upgrades and rushing settlers and culture.

Abu demanded ivory and I told him where to stick it and he declared! :ar15:  Ha! Turn 1 will be very painful for Mr. Abubu. If I can sweep through him fast enough I might be able to avoid the switch to Commie.

In a recent personal game I had a culture continent going strong in Rep and decided to cull the units and switch to Demo. Big mistake. OK, not a big mistake but it certainly was detrimental. I don't know that I'll ever shoot for Demo again unless it's part of the variant.

I didn't realize JB had started and just played five turns. Sounds like his turns were like mine, so I'll go after him.

Here's what happened to me
Spoiler :
I'm back.

Recon: Did most of what I laid out before. Why for are we building forests on tundra when we've got unimproved tiles elsewhere? MM for a long long time in a little padded cell far far away. Change some builds to cavalry. We don't need no stinkin' rifles.

IT: Abu smokin' hash, demands ivory. No. He declares. :crazyeye:

In my other succession game Whoknows02, we successfully wage war in Democracy while keeping lux to only 20%.

really? and whos sister did you you have to "bribe"? or was it his mother in law? :P

AK, I would appreciate it if you would finish out your turns.

I'm still stuck on 0 as there was much more on my calendar this weekend than I thought would be. Also, today is mother's day so playing Civ would be right up there with with asking my wife to mow the lawn. :)

Sorry for the confusion.

I had hardware problems after I posted. They've been fixed. I'll get this up within 24 hours (if i've still got the save) ;)

IT: Hittites building Magellans

1315: @ Fustat: cannon go 2-2. 4/4 cav d. 3/3 spear; 4/4 MDI d. 3/3 spear; 4/4 knight retreats; 4/4 cav d. 3/3 spear; 4/4 LB d. 3/4 spear. Raze Futstat. @ Buk. 4/4 cav d. 3/3 spear; ditto; 3/4 cav d 3/3 spear; 4/4 loses to 3/3 spear; 4/4 cav d 3/4 spear. Raze it.

1320: build new nineveh; science to 30%

IT: ind > elect

Need settlers to fill arab lands. Arabs have nothing of use, raze all ciities. Ottos are next target. Need a prebuild for ToE. Workers need to get railnet up asap.

0) 1325: Rename various "New" cities. Lots of skirmishes, no sweat so far.

1) 1330: Arab counter mostly fails. Khorsabad worker-->cannon. Hindana worker-->rax. We raze Basra and get a leader with the Ancient! Samawah switched to temple.

2) 1335: Tell Wilaya worker-->cathedral. Tudmur built, starts temple.

3) 1340: Ashur cav-->factory. Ellipi cav-->bank. Carchemish settler-->uni. Mosul aqua-->market. Medina taken.

4) 1345: Resistance in Medina ends. We get messages to build the Epic and the Academy. Kuwait worker-->worker. Uruk cav-->settler. Samarra court-->factory. Eulbar cannon-->settler. Sulaymaniah worker--> temple. Izibia cannon-->uni. Karana worker-->settler. Balad cannon-->court. Mansura taken with lotsa slaves.

5) 1350: Baqabah worker-->worker. Telloh worker-->bank. Despite success so far, WW kicks up and about a dozen cities start rioting. Damn hippies. I get to do what I've always wanted to do, raze Mecca. Army goes on and razes Kufah. Basra rebuilt in our image.

6) 1355: We are running a deficit, so I have to turn science down a notch. Means we get electric in 5 instead of 4. Doha built, starts temple.

7) 1360: Akkad cav-->epic. Uruk settler-->settler. Zariqum uni--> worker. Adab worker-->market. Amman cannon-->market. Ziggurat temple -->harbor. Carthage has spice available, we trade ivory, fur, magnets and 20 to get it. Carthage was the furthest behind in tech, next to our current victims. Damascus and Baghdad taken. Rush temple in Basra.

8) 1365: Carthage renegotiates our iron for gems deal w/them. They want horses, too. Ok. Arabs get Turks to sign embargo. That's not gonna last long, hehehe. Basra temple-->market. Eulbar settler--> cathedral. Hindana rax-->uni. Karbala cannon-->aqua. Najaf cannon--> market. Aden is taken. Army is taking a breather in Baghdad. Sana built. Rush temple in Samawah.

9) 1370: Hittites want to renegotiate dyes deal. I'm not crazy about giving them coal as well, but I gotta keep the hippies too stoned to care. Babylon factory-->suffrage. Nineveh court-->cathedral. Uruk settler-->factory. Nimrud aqua-->bank. Khorsabad cannon-->bank. Samawah temple-->market. Fez captured. We capture Anjar, wiping out the Arabs and get another leader. I switch Babylon to Academy and run the leader back there to rush it. Tripoli built. Now that we're back at peace, I can turn lux off, put the clowns back to work, and get Electric next turn.

10) 1375: Learn electric, start replaceables. Babylon Academy--> Suffrage. Eridu cav-->settler. Zariqum settler-->cathedral. Both wings of the palace get a second floor. Mecca rebuilt. Settler at ruins of Kufah.

Just keep filling in the gaps of old Arabia and keep buildin' culture, along with banks to fuel culture. Getting replaceables will help as we can use engineers to rush culture along in our frontier cities.
