I had to take a screenshot when this popped up:

You probably suplied the Celts with saltpeter, incense & silks whereas you got 1gpt and resource(s) from them.
While the deal went on, you got access on your own to the resource in question formerly delivered by Celts. Now that you have access, the Celts cannot give you another unit of the same resource.

So... it's no big deal.

That's one fat worm of a pangaea! (reminds me of a quote in an old Sullla SG 2 years ago)

Anyway, seeing that saltpeter was valued so low, do they even have military tradition? I've noticed in a recent game that saltpeter went up in cost when I acquired Military Tradition (since it could be used for cavs). The Celts probably have enough luxs that they don't value those very highly, either.

No, CT, Grille was right ;)

And they would value those luxuries quite highly, as they have over 20 cities :p

Not if they already have enough luxuries.

enough luxs?;)

Of course, we would only know for sure if we know the Celts' lux situation, respectively how that deal looked like 20 turns ago (IF it existed at all then, which I assumed). I guess it wasn't a new proposal, but a re-negotiation.

At least such kinds of strange 'offers' often occur when deal re-negotiation is checked in prefs, the deal only contained resource deliveries (plus possibly gpt, but no upfront sum) on either sides and the player gets native access to the resource before the deal exceeds the 20-turn limit.

The most weirdest 'offers' could even come w/o any stuff on the AI's side. This is the case if the old deal didn't contain gpt on their side, but only the resource. Happened to me when I got coal from Egypt and I paid a lot gpt and some resources. After 20 turns, I got coal on my own. Crafty Cleo surely wanted to renew the deal, but her side of the table was just plain empty...:ack:
Therefor, it rather *looked* like a really insulting tribut demand, but the 'counter proposal' option helped to clearly differentiate here.

Anyways, the AI is of course famous for making funny proposals in general. Everybody probably knows offers like WM for WM plus Fission (@monopol price)...

Grille, I did have a pretty big trade with the Celts so you are probably right. There was so much on both sides I don't remember exactly. I will have to see if I can find a game save and get back to you.

And to Chieftess, no I have been waiting forever for M.T. but don't have it yet! Last game it came 610 or 620AD. This game they are researching everything but Mil. Tradition though I need it so I can finally bring out my Siaphi(sp?) and get my conquest going.

Edit: As usual, edit a dumb miswording!
