I live in the UK and have bought Civ IV.

However it does not work - Failed to initialise Renderer problem.

BUT I am not giving up. :king:

Now I have tried all the fixes available that are possible on my system, I say this because I am unable to run the unpak fix as I have Windows ME and it simply won't let me run the pakbuild.zip program.

So I have:

1.7mhz P4
640k RAM
Radeon 9800
Win ME

Should I?

1. Pay for and Upgrade to Windows XP - and hope that the unpak fix fixes my gfx card problem
2. Pay for and Upgrade my gfx card to something else
3. Wait for the patch and hope this fixes it
4. Accept my fate.

What would YOU do?

Just to clarify, were you unable to unzip the file? Or execute the file inside the zip file after you'd extracted it. If you do not have a zip file extractor, try winzip, they have a free-trial version available for download. Get it at http://www.download.com.

If you meant not able to run the executable, then choose door number 3, a patch should be coming soon. In the meanwhile, pull up a chair and welcome to the forum.

I can download the .zip file and I have tried this with the XP one and the win2000 one, and I can unzip it so that I can see the executable but when I try and run the executable I get an error which i assume is because I am on windows ME?

i can't percisely remember what that error message (as I am at work now) is but it might be something like 'a problem with kernal32.dll'

thanks v v v much for your advice

Hi again,

I am home from work now and have been trying more various fixes for my above problem but to no avail
.

I now can tell you the exact error i am getting with the pakbuild.exe.

when i try to run it i get two messages up:

'A device attached to the system is not functioning'

AND (i think more importantly)

'The PAKBUILD.EXE file is linked to missing export kernel32.dll:AttachConsole'

Any advice tech fans?
