Read that article about MS and WinXP. It will cause some people not to upgrade!!! But we are what will cause this effect...it's the consumers unquestionable trust of Microsoft and everything they create....

Well take this MS!!!!

Do the smart thing...buy a Mac!

"The brainwashed do not know that they have been brainwashed." - The Kinks

Yeah, a Mac. I have seen ASM's (aka MSA) Mac crash so many times that it is not funny to even Mac haters anymore.
I am perfectly content with Win2k 2000 Pro and Advanced Server. So what if my Server is a trial version. I reload the system more often than ever 6 months anyways

Oh, and I am getting the XP beta, so I will be able to determine if it is worth it.

USB sucks anyways. Long live PS/2!
Really, when can we get something that works better than USB (I remember when it was supposed to be driverless/rebootless, plug the device in and use it....bullfeathers!) and cheaper than FireWire?

I agree with GhengisK. . .he obviously has been sitting behind computer screens way too long. And what's up with the pbs site? hehe There's a nun on the home page.

The whole anti-Microsoft propaganda sickens me, especially comparing them to a communist regime, when Microsoft completely uses a capitalistic model as their business basis. I'm not saying Microsoft products are completely bug-free, but as a consumer I have a choice not to use or buy them. Use Linux(yada yada) if you hate microsoft! Hopefully cornmaster you are <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>

Right NeelaX, Linux is also an alternative, even on PowerPC platforms. Indeed, even Macintosh platforms have Linux, and it used to be sponsored by... Mister Apple himself. Used to be, I said.
But now you can find everything Linux for PPC. Even Enlightment and the classic x86 Linux versions.

But now I still keep on saying that Mac OS X rules. The other OS I would really appreciate is BeOS. A modern, stable OS...

PS: btw, Neela, you have a Mac?

MAC crash but that's the only "bad" thing they do!

They never break and you never have all the stupid problems you have with a PC!

MAC rules!

End of tcp/ip?

Sorry Ghengis, I'm a PC girl <img src="icon12.gif" border="0"> Not to say I haven't given Macs a try, I used them a lot in college and other course growing up.<br />I have nothing against them, my only harp is the limitations of building your own Mac. In the PC world, you have a huge selection of motherboards, you can choose your own processor, video card, etc. . into any case you choose. For the computer hobbiest, that rocks.

Waaaaah. There's at least a century since I last visited this tech forum.<br />Hey NeelaX, PC girl? Then naughty girl <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0"> <img src="tongue.gif" border="0"> <br />Just kidding.<br />Well, actually you're right, mac is not modular but it's the Apple FiLoSoFy <img src="icon12.gif" border="0"> A no-problem homogeneous machin, so customers don't have to worry about anything. I remember an old woman (not talking about you of course <img src="icon12.gif" border="0"> otherwise, Johan, oops sorry the yellow destiny, would kill me) who were lost when a PC salesman asked her:<br />"how many RAM", which chip? which video card, how much Go for the HD, etc... poor woman... Obviously all the girls aren't like that eh? <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

I have had Win XP final release dfor a couple months. it's not too bad if you set it's theme to "Classic Window" and then you have to change the start Menue to "Classic Windows" and then you have to just not be annoyed w/ it too much. it DOES grow on you. But I like Win2k better. I feel.... safer w/ it. win2k pro is the way to go. SP2 makes it kick. get a good configuration, use norton ghost to save it, and yoru ready to go in about 10 minutes if you have to format. oh, and OFFICE XP DOES indeed ROCK. ~Q

oh yes, and BTW: Windows XP uses raw sockets for comunications, this is about 100 times easier to hack into (if your one of thouse people who actually know how to do such thing, or even care to learn abotu them) thier version of TCP/IP never caught on BTW... raw sockets means sockets TCP/IP can use. MS uses some strnage acronym to do it's web comunications.

Wrong.

It allows you to use raw sockets in your programs but only when logged in as administrator. It does not use them for every application.

Raw sockets means that you can alter any part of the packet. It allows you to do pretty much anything from IP spoofing on up. It's not really needed for most things.

Death of TCP/IP? Dont make me laugh. TCP/IP is the internet (well, how the machines talk to each other anyway). There is no way that microsoft or any other company can kill TCP/IP.

This kinda thing always makes me laugh, saying that microsoft is going to rule the world or something. I once read an article saying how IE was recording every web page you go to and how you need to go to DOS and mess about with attributes. I finally realised at the end they were talking about the history folder!!

if something ruled the world? wouldn't that kinda mean there wouldn't be a alternative...

i hate mac. i hate their stupid one-buttom mouses. however, it don´t like my win me neither. how good is it when you get a blue screen on the start up, and scan disc makes the computer hang up?

Im guessing you have win 95/98/98 SE/Me. The reason why it crashes so much is because they just took DOS (16 bit system) and put a 32bit system on top of it.

The only way to get windows to crash less (apart from removing it all together;)) is to get NT/2000/XP because it doesn't have a 16 bit system (i.e. you cant play some DOS games)
