Default Mod Problems (Civ IV)

I am having trouble with the default mods in Civ IV. When I load them, the Play Now option is not available, and there is no special scenario. When I run the normal scenarios, for example using the American Revolution Mod, the dialogue shows about how I need to break away, but I start in 4000BC with a settler and a warrior.
