Defensive GLs?

Who here has actually gotten a GL by defending rather than attacking? Ya hear about these kinds of occurences, but I'm suspicious...

it happens... not too often, but still.
Just in case, i hardly ever keep elite-defenders in citys... i build another to take it's place and then move it up to the front and put it in a fort, on a mountain or on top of my SoD.

I have. As the french, I had one coastal city in the English territory, I was at war with them. They were attacking with knights against my lone infantryman. About four knight attacks and my vet infantry spawned me Napoleon

I have, tons of times, but most of the time, the leader dies right away.

As Tomoyo has already said, they often get killed immediately and beside that, the basic chance to get one is half of the normal chance.

I get them from defending more often that attacking, why?

1) I normally do not start building offensive units untill I plan on declaring war on someone, or someone declares war on me.

2) I normally have few elite offensive units.

I have only gotten one...but the city was captured and it died anyway .

I am currently playing a game where I was attacked every turn by 2 to 4 units and my spearman became a napoleon. I was in the middle of ancient age.

I have too, though rarely. I have heard that the chance of generating a leader is halved when defending.

The easiest way too make it happen is in the late game when making a beachhead as this can involve a tremendous amount of troops.

I had it happen once. I think it was the second GL I got. I was pissed because an Elite Calvary won me the GL, defensively, and then a bunch more units came a long and decimated my calvary stack. Lost the GL. Very upset.

Defensive GLs are very rare, bcs usually AI wont attack well defended(many defenders and if elites in stack) spots or stacks. Most likely GL in defence is luck, when lonely elite units is attacked with stronger attacker. Last my GL in defence I got when stack of infantry (20-25) attacked town with 5 conscript mech infantries there

Just get attacked a LOT and you can see MGLs appearing on defense. I got probably a half-dozen in one game. OK, so I was playing always war Sid, but they can be found. They are certainly rare, but they are also certainly reasonably possible.

I have had one and the leader got destroyed. It seems like that most people who do get them it is often killed.

I've gotten one from a defending Ancient Cavalry and it survived .

I've gotten one and the disadvantage is they can kill him before he can move!
Also once i saw one spawn for the ai...... I went and killed it before it could move.

I got them many times. Both in and out of cities. Sometimes the one outside a city does get killed but not always.

Not quite guys. It's 50% more difficult.

1 in 16 chance offensive (1 in 12 with heroic epic)
1 in 24 defensive (1 in 18 with epic)
