Deity Challenge 9 - Denmark - Ice Age

I d have appreciated an even harder setup as the last one, harder and harder untill there is only 1 surviver :)

But if winning vs a 5 pack is possible tecking out civs 1 by 1 shouldnt be too hard espacially with such a great spot for cap.
Also no more huts PLEASE

^There was something very odd about tech rate in the previous game as if anything the Korea was slowed down by the grouping it with others. Industrial in 150 is late besides the Mongols were the lead apart from very early. Might have something to do with sci vc disabled but might be something totally different also. On the 2nd turn Hiawatha was the tech lead. On it's Korea will hit Industrial 130s at latest - earliest I can remember was T114 on Continents map, 8 civs & nothing cooked.

What I personally think was very very fun with the previous map was that scietific victory was disabled and that the 5 pack was so strong late game. This enabled a great war with giant death robots etc. Very lovely experience :)

The ski infantry always felt super weird to me... they're not even a viking era unit, usually all the unique units and abilities are tied to the theme. Shouldn't vikings have a special Galleass or something?

Does the berserker retain bonuses after upgrade? If so having those and ski infantry on top should make it very powerful. You do need tech parity though to make them last. Or couple cover promos on them.

Things are okay so far, going tradition 4, very standard game so far, scout > monument granary, stole cs worker at t11, nice and early, teched pottery and then went for trapping to utilize early worker + granary for nice food early.
then arcery > mining > sailing > masonry > calender > philo > construction.

managed to block french settler with worker and archer, until now when i have the area blocked off. got DOF with france, so diplo with france is good.

now im faced with a choice. do i go for education, or do i go for lower part of tree, like crossbows and/or longswords, advice is appreciated

as you can see in screenshot im building NC and should finish t89. bought the library in my fourth city.

edit: also got +1 prod from fishing boats pantheon, very usefull +3 hammers early, and 2 of my cities can also utilize the bonus a bit later.

Turn 224.

Spoiler :
I'm at a loss as to what to do right now. I feel I'm really, really far behind.I've been at war with Otto for over 100 turns and have made no progress, and now Napolean has all but swallowed him up. I took about the last 50 turns to get my economy up and science as well. I think I might make a play for Istanbul as soon as Dynamite is finished. Otherwise I think Isabel and Nap have runaway too much and I might just start over. Thoughts?

Edit: Now looking at Peter's screenshot I realize I might as well start over. Peter, at around what turn would you suggest to start warmongering? I made an attempt at the closest city to me at one point when I got about 5 berserkers, but after losing 2 immediately I had to pull back and I've just kinda been sitting for about 100 turns.

Well, on this map we have a sucky start. No leverage possible anywhere to be seen. I only had 3 cities. No expansion possibilities. But try to fight early vs strong Napoleon in forest? No way possible. We have to wait for indirect fire - artillery. So what I did, since I only had 3 cities was to go heroic epic. Then I saved GE for Brandenburg, and save money for buying cannons, and go Oxford in another city and then as quick as you possibly can use those very uppgraded artillery.

With those artillery I had a long war with Suleiman with slow progross. But then I hit logistics with about 7 artillerys. And then it was quite easy to quickly conquer the continent. The continent has good cities actually, great potential for lots of science and gold cities.

Here is where I am now. Great money yield and great culture, decent science.

Old Peter what policies have you prepared to take such a high sum of cities, so quickly? I mean without your happiness plummeting.

Just had another attempt fail as I lost my 2nd city on the SE coast to aggressive Nap.

I think my biggest problems lies in my opening techs, as every game NC is SUPER slow ( like turn 100+). I've been starting AH > Pot > Trapping> Mining or sailing> then mining or Masonry depending on what I did earlier. I feel like it takes FOREVER to get a luxary resource. I'm thinking that getting trapping early is a waste. What do you guys think?

Also Peter, what units did you use to actually capture cities with early? I found with all the hills and mountains, getting infantry in there is difficult, and we have no access to horses.

Also also... Were your first 3 cities at Start + Middle of forest + SE by the coast? I'm asking so many questions not because I want to copy you, I just want to *understand* why you do certain things.

After tons of retries from just getting my ass handed to me by France, I've actually managed to figure out the exact path to walk to get the ruins to give :

Upper left : +1 Pop
Lower Right : +20 Culture
Far right : Free Tech

I know it's cheap but that's about the best you could hope for, for an early boost.

I've also figured out where Nap likes to settle in my area and you can defer him from even coming over till turn 60+ by just putting a unit on each of the spots he wants to build a city.

See this is the type of start I need. How in the world did you get the money for 4 libraries + 3 more cities and get it all done in time to get NC at a decent time? And How was your Capitol at 9 pop already? Did you sell crab to everyone? If you didn't buy all the libraries did you build them as soon as you settled? I just... don't get it. My starts look nothing like this, Hell on my last attempt ( which failed at turn 246) I didn't even get my 4th city till like turn 130.

*Edit* Well looks like I'm the only one playing this one lol, it's not as popular as the others.

I'm playing this one too, just haven't really had a lot of time for it this week. I'm on turn 50, just placed my second city in that nice SE spot by the river/salt. I had to use 2 scouts to block both french and ottoman settlers while my settler was on the way there.

I went tradition, trying to decide at this point if I should rush buy a library in the second city and get the NC going in capital, or if I should buy another settler and hardbuilt the 2 libraries...

I haven't been DOW'd yet, but man everyone has me way outgunned, it's only a matter of time. Maybe I should get another settler, hard build libraries while my cap pumps out some military. Otherwise I'm probably going to get thwacked soon.

PS. I totally forgot crab is a lux :hammer2: How did I do that?

Well this is my best attempt thus far. Turn 128. I managed to keep all settlers completely out of my area and hit a turn 78 NC with 4 cities.

I just Popped Renaissance through acoustics. And then immediately popped Rationalism after filling up Tradition. Everything is in good shape except for my army and happiness. My science is actually higher, But I decided to make a play for Sistine Chapel which should be completed around turn 144.

I'm going to streamline to Artillery now and Try to begin the march of death into France hopefully around turn 175-190.

*Update*
Well France decided to backstab me at turn 212 as I was taking over Istanbul, immediately killing 4 artillery and I just left the game right there. Around turn 190 Spain, Germany, and Ohttoman all denounced me and went hostile, which they hadn't done in my previous attempts. It really screwed me over because I couldn't trade my crab to anyone and went unhappy for a long time.

Going to try again at the 128 turn save and see if I can change things up.

Sure. I can not play anything until saturday though. Because I have my gf here until then. :mischief:

I would prefer if you maybe only enable domination victory, then we can try to play it with "no ranged units masoc challenge" rules. :)
