Deity is nuts

In a bad mood this weekend and I needed to blow off steam. I always play default rules but I used the editor for the first time.

Marines from the start for me only, required no techs or resources, were cheap, two movement, all terrian as roads. Huge, pangea map, all civs and deity just to see what it was like. Intended to be an hour or so of killing everyone just for fun.

With my ridiculous advantage I won nearly every battle but I was stunned at the number of units and cities these civs pumped out early. I made a marine and sent him off to do his thing. Ran into Germany first. They had three cities and must have had about 12 military units running around. This was maybe 10 or 12 turns in. I knew they started with some extra units but... wow.

Predictably, I quickly got bored and shuffled back to my little regent game but I wanted to tip my hat to deity players. Not going to be joining you any time soon.

They do get a lot of units...which is why I can't and don't play above Regent, curretly. Even Monarch is too hard for me.

It all also depends much on luck, esp initial geography. ;) Good geography (grasslands, rivers, chokepoints available) can do wonders for your game.

Yes, deity is definitly nuts, yesterday I started a game of Deity with persia, and now I'm roundabout 500 BC and there like at gunpowder and I'm still in the ancient age, but he thats Deity, I'm glad I'm still alive. And the strange thing is I can beat Emperor but Deity is just out of my league (for now)!!:king:

Deity is very doable as long as you limit AI growths (many civs / land area, like 8 for tiny, 16 for standard) and attack soon - but only if you are lucky and if you can keep tech leads (otherwise your attackers are outdated before they reach the enemy) - so use 1.16 and pray for Fridays 1.21

I actually win almost every Deity game, but only when I`m extremely lucky (like they fight me down to 1 defender in my last city, and that same turn I get a leader, Build UN the next and win :D) or if I start on tiny map, Pangaea, with 16 civ - killing spree!

ah no, normally I win by conquest/domination and from what I`ve read many other players do, too. It is quite simple, just pick a good UU, survive until it comes round, then GO! Works fine on a tiny map with many civs...

My two wins on diety were a domination and a UN. Most games I'm able to survive until I lose by UN or domination. I haven't tried the many civs approach - maybe I'll give that a shot.
