Deau
Emperor
Hi everyone, I read many deity pangaea rants around the forums. I too am an old school deity player returning well casually but anyway.
I'm one of those crazy people who should go see a psycho according to Light Cleric in a different thread
. No matter how much I bash my head over deity pangaea losses, I just keep reseting and try different alternatives.
I tend to be a 4 city approach player but have been trying to look into liberty REX lately to see if it would improve my win rate on some maps.
This is an outstanding map for either tall or wide (which is really rare). Civ played is the Netherlands.
Additional details put into spoiler tag. I believe this map is the best one I got as far as deity-pangaea entry-level goes in the past month.
Map overview:
V shaped portion of a pangaea. 2 (maybe 3) civs to the E/NE but there is a single tile width land path to carry over creating outstanding natural barriers in the early game.
2 CSs and a single mountain tile, seperated by harsh grounds (jungle/forest/marsh) on W/NW flank. This creates an additionnal great natural defense on the west flank. You are on the south end of the V shape obviously.
Only civ to the north is faaaaaaar and there are 2 CSs blocking and awful settling spots so you can almost fully populate the V if you go with a REX strategy. It is possible/reasonable to hit 10-11 cities without triggering extreme DoWs for expansionist diplo hits.
NE neighbor is Ceasar :s (high risk of runaway)
NW neighbor is Oda
Desert start, with POLDERS! - 2 nearby faith CSs to get desert folklore
.
It is possible to get an outstanding load of different luxuries (although you'll eventually wind up with 5-7 silver nodes). Over a 10 city rex, you can get
6 silver
1 gold
1 marble
1 incense
0-1 wine
1 oranges
2 pearls
1 truffles
and CERRO DE POTOSI if you dare settling further outside early before the CS expands there
Settle the hill SW from spawn. If you settle the silver vein, you will probably eventually restart the game because it locks you out of the "last" settling spot which provides 2 pearls and a nice coastal city.
*EDIT* SS provided, turn 105 in a recent rematch
As for myself, I feel like I poorly played my current game (didn't use my extreme load of gold early enough to keep on rexing fast enough using CSs luxuries). I was hoarding to reduce early DoW likeliness but I will very likely play this one through and replay it a few times.
Good luck to all of the new learners/old returning players and even those that are "fully comfortable" with current deity pangaea but wish to improve on rexing strategies and such!
