Deleting threads and post counts

I don't really understand why some of the threads are deleted. If they are spam, simply lock them, there is no need to delete them (or to move them to the secret staff forum). I have seen many moderators say that post count doesnt matter... so why delete threads? Deleting threads makes you think that post counts matter, when in fact they don't.

Plus, I like reading locked topics :p

easy--thousands of old threads with tens of thousands of post take up space--period

I think part of the underlying issue is that although post count is 'officially' not important, some people do feel it is to them. So, they try to increase their post count by whatever means they can.

So, the mods let people post as they are while the issue/discussion is topical. Once it drops away it may be deleted to convey the message that the spam was not needed and nothing will be gained from it.

The alternative to this is to have the Mods posting warnings in the spam threads all the time.

The current way saves time, allows the posters to enjoy the forums more, and still shows that spammers will not gain post count from posting as they do.

Why not just return to the peanuts forum policy? (Is that how it was called?)

What Duke said.

Plus, I just like to irritate people. :p

And the PG was abused the last time , no reason to trust posters with it now. And we don't want to invest valuable Internet time to monitor what's practically spam anyways...

I forgot about valuable server space.

CG: Will send my last save tomorrow. To tired to right now.

What if there were 2 types of deleting?

type 1- for old discussion threads in OT, and other things, where you are deleting to save server space, it doesn't reduce post count when deleted.

Type 2- for spam topics, and things that deserve deleting, reduces post count.

Yhat is reason enough to delete them.

You missunderstood me. I like reading them because you usually lock them and I always get a laugh at what you say to the rule breaker.

Exactly why I usually try and check out locked threads as they can often be quite funny.

This ancient Roman is not swayed by flattery; I just suspect you are manovering to obtain stricke position on me.:scan:

I am always reading them. So far the Off topic and Humor forums are my favorite. Althrough the tecnical problem ones are quite funny because all most all of the closed ones were closed for the same reason.

BTW Recently I haven't seen many really cool guys in the forum. A change in policy?

More likely people have begun to relize that the person the are insulting will not see what they called them and the insulter will get in trouble with nothing to gain. Insult the Marine Corps however and:ripper: :rocket2: :sniper: :slay: :die: trouble or no trouble I will launch a flame war agaisnt that person:mischief:

Or perhaps its because other people kept on copying it and using it themselves.
